Cars can cost over 100k ED each.
2) Street cred will affect what the merchants will sell to you when combined with level.
As a side note you kinda did a lot of sidequest grinding before a very early point on the main questline. Also fixer gigs tend to award more street cred than levels, the main story quests tend to award more levels than street cred.
OP has played thru the game at least once......
Third times the charm
E$ are for spending on things you can't find or craft. I find it's pretty easy to accumulate cash and _buy_ cyberware rather than grinding for crafting materials to upgrade it. Also, you may find it easier to buy a specific weapon that never seems to drop.
-You can use them to buy weapons, attachments and mods. These can be a massive money sink especially in early game. Sure, you can just use whatever you found, but if you're looking for a particular weapon with a high tire, that can take you back over 100k easily
-Same for quickhacks
-You can buy cyberware. Here is a certain balance between buying an upgrading implants. Upgrading implants costs less, but you need components.
-You can also buy blueprints. You'll find all blueprints sooner or later, but you can buy them sooner and that'll allow you to craft some pretty neat things early on.
-Here and there you can find rare permanent upgrade items for sale. Capacity shards for example.
And if you've got eddies over...
-You can use them to buy luxury items like cars or appartments.
-You can use them to buy clothes
Streetcred
-Defines what vendors/rippers have for sale
-Defines what cars are for sale
-Gives you a bonus on gig payments
Since streetcred defines what implants are for sale at the rippers (together with main level), there is some effect again on the whole upgrade vs. buy thing. When you cant buy better implants because your streetcred is too low, you can still upgrade existing implants, IF you have the components. What if you dont have the required high tire components? You can craft them from low tire components, IF you have the blueprint.
