You do you.
This game does what most CRPG's tries to do, balance guns around DPS, which makes only slow single shot guns feels good, and any automatic weapon feel like ammo wasting BB guns. They also added a few more really stupid balance features like limited attachments (No silencers for many of the weapons and limited scopes making precision rifles useless). The only semiautomatic rifle hits like a wet rag because it has range? Anything in full auto is a joke.
I play on Very hard, the experience might be different on Hard or Normal.
I mix it up with potent quickhacks.
The overwatch type snipers are a bit annoying when it forces you to stand when you fire, would make it super funny if it just knocked you on your butt lol.
I wish I could have a heavy machine gun in the trunk of my car. I would like to use them more grabbing one of those and just laying waste to everything in your path is glorious.
No matter what I try, I always end up carrying 15 different guns around, just because I like them.
5 different shotguns, 3 assault rifles, 3 pistols (2 power, 1 tech), 2 sniper rifles, 2 precission rifles, 3 smgs
The only guns I dont really like are smart guns. Thats simply cause I played shooters since wolf3d and I can aim with kb+m soooo much faster, more reliable, and even much more precise then what the smartguns do.
And tech rifles are much better for dealing with enemies in cover, imho.
I'll never understand why they removed that. You could do that at launch! Back then the car stache wasn't connected to your appartment stache and you could put HMGs in there.
Now if you want to talk about other weaponry in this game they nailed it out of the park for immersion. In sci-fi you'll often find melee weapons to be heavily included in the weaponry of the setting and this can be because of guns being so strong that trying to block them without turtling is futile so defense is abandoned for agility and melee, or in the case of Dune you get a rock-paper-scissors scenario with lazguns and normal guns, shields, and melee weapons. In the case of cyberpunk its the cyberware enhancing human capability that adds melee into the mix with the added agility and strength and can include some really awesome weapons built right into your body.
a lot off topic but I'd just like to point out the absolute marvel of science that a monowire should be in this world. to be able to cut something with a wire of super strong material only a single molecule wide I feel like would open up so many possibilities in science. One off the top of my head would be machining parts for bridges, space ships, buildings etc... to slide into place fitting as tight together as the laws of physics would allow.
with the right upgrades and smart gun you can do disgusting amounts of damage. You can find/mod Smart SMGs to deal nothing but headshots looking down the sites. I've got an assault rifle that can track 5 targets at once. Very useful if you just wanna bunny hop around the room destroying everything and everyone...
