Maybe try a couple of them and see if they are up to speed or if they are just fluff. I myself enjoy all the content released so far, but I also like exploring without doing any quests, just to see if I can break into different areas that are locked off after the main quest is done.
NCPD hustles are primarily for XP but the bigger ones also drop legendary weapon bluprints.
Cybercychos are their own stories and good for XP.
The races are their own story about Claire. You will also get one and potentially 2 cars from it.
Beat on the brat has a unique car, an iconic sniper and and iconic grenade.
but yeah the gigs are some of my fav. content, because it is the only type of mission that has a story but also plays in sandboxy locations where you can really choose how to approach em. the gigs in the expansion are of even higher quality than the main game story wise. it really pains me how many ppl dont even look into gigs, because the stories and the gameplay in them is among the best things in this game.
Races and Fights, a filler, but it was a nice break, and should have had no limit. Like in some other games, you could do Fights with different strength of enemies, and amounts of groups. Just to test your build, or training yourself for the ultimate final fight
- Fists
- Katana / Knife / Blades
- Guns
- Everything
Cyberpsycho, could have more potential, but felt now more as a filler to tell the dangers of to much Cyberware or something like that
Gigs, still do not get how it adds to the story, maybe it was more 'background' telling about the character giving the gigs. But why need to learn their life story if V never really does sometimes with them
Side jobs, some did feel like a filler, because there is no follow-up later in story. Others did add to the story, but more to the background of Johnny
If we're talking in terms of plot, they are filler for sure, but a lot of the time they immerse you into the world a bit more and build some groundwork for things that happen in the main story.
It's the same way in Cyberpunk. I think if you're in it just to see what happens, there's no real reason to do them all.
Ive had a couple of my best fights from random unmarked encounters out among the garbage dumps...and I mean like five minutes of clambering over garbage bags type areas. Want dark flavour? Try legging it through those garbage piles chased by a bunch of psycho scavs.
+1
There is genuinely nothing artificial about any of the content in CP77.
Ofcourse not every activity will have a long story like the main story.. but that is why you call it a main story lol. Often even smaller quests have different outcomes/results. But not everything in a rpg game needs to have some crazy impact or payoff later, life isn't like that either..
NCPD scanner missions are good for XP early in the game, and for farming shards until about level 50, and for leveled, random loot and a few eddies. Had one iconic Tier 5 netrunner deck and an iconic Apogee Sandevistan drop from them after reaching level 50. I have about half of them done.
In Phantom Liberty, its been gigs since they are new content, and hunting for air drops, farming for cyberwear capacity shards. My V is still way below where he should be on that stat and still have 2 slots empty because of it.
I love the freeroaming aspect. The NCPD parts actually have small backstory parts to them if you bother to read, giving so much more backstory and life to the city that's just outside your own control.
I've got a real life job, thats enough. Before I 'grind' in a game I'd rather stop playing it or simply cheat.
That being said, I do all the side content.
-Cyberpsychos are fun, I always do them on very hard. (I normaly play on just hard, cause otherwise the common goons are a bit to spongy for my taste). After beating them I often just reload and try a different approach, different weapons, different tactic.
-The races? Mehh. Its not a racing game, just like TW3 isnt a game about horse racing. I mean, I still do it, its just 4 of them and you get a nice car. But its probably the weakest part of the game.
-Gigs are great, the best part of the game. They each come with their own story, their own environment. There are plenty of different pathes to achive the goal (and often there are different ways to success. Just because the journal says 'do x' it doesnt mean thats the only way. Doing y might be much better).
-Scanner missions are fun too. The organized crimes ones are the best (and the biggest) but even the ordinary assaults are nice. A good exercise, and a good opportunity to test different weapons/perks etc. And if you take your time to actually read the shards (or simply listen to the guys before decaptiating them) you'll find that many of these missions are connected to themslef and to the gigs. There are whole plotlines below the surface.
(and yes, you can indeed miss/break some questlines. By making 'wrong' decissions, or simply by waiting too long. Eg. when Panam call you re:Saul and tells you to come asap. If you wait too long Saul dies and Panam will never talk to you again. That will even lock you out fro one ending)
gigs start with a call on what you have to do. if you dont take the call you will get the info via message. then you do the task. sometimes the fixer gives you a bonus if you do the job particularely well (for example stealthily if the fixer wants you to). on site you can then choose how to approach the job. some gigs you can skip confrontation entirely by just smartly entering and exiting. some gigs are more fun if you do em guns blazing. the gigs are great because they flesh out the job of a "solo" in the cyberpunk world. they are the eqivalent of the monster hunt missions from witcher. those missions are the bread and butter of what crews, solos or gangs are payed to do by a fixer. they are a great oportunity to get to know the kinds of crime one might get involved with in night city. without the gigs, cyberpunk would just be a linear story movie with waaaay too much talking imo.
but yeah i get it, many ppl are not into the immersion by gameplay aspect. many ppl just want to go from questmarker to questmarker, from cutscene to cutscene and want to experience story in a very obvious manner.
