Side gigs
I just started playing two weeks ago. I’m maybe level 16 or so. I thought I would slow down on the main quests/story line and do some side gigs.

Last two gigs I was told to avoid battle or confrontation. I spent about 30 minutes trying to find a way past security without a fight. I don’t remeber name of gig but I had to get into a club and upload a virus. It seemed impossible to do without a fight.

What options am I missing that would have achieved the goals without a fight. I’ve tried to scan, hack, distract etc. nothing worked. I even thought trying to get into building a different way by climbing, etc, but couldn’t find anything.

I’m not looking for spoilers or anything like that. I’m just looking some ideas that maybe I’m not thinking of.

Thanks

The sneak take down is pretty easy to use. V sometimes has to divert attention If two or more are present. The Game played with just ncpd and gigs is huge. My V has been focusing on Gigs cyber psychos and ncpd"s V is pushing max street cred and lvl 45 ish. and i still have most of the main quests left. The game is more fun to me if You , the boss , intentionally slows it down. Have fun. If you build up you deck you can use that as well. You can often run away to fail the trace attempt.

Well, the first thing you got already right: Look for a back entrace. Backside. Roof. A window. Leg implants help immensly here. Oftenb these are locked behind skill checks (technical/body)

-Second: Look for a camera. Take it over. Switch through al of them. Dont forget to mark enemies you see (MMB). You can now track them even through walls. (range depends on your eye implants). Only after that: switch them of.

Once you go in:
-Distract, bait, sonic shock.
-Optical Camo!
-Synaptic Accelerator gives you a chance to get away when detected
-'No alarm' doesn't mean 'No attacks'. Use stealth takedown, hide the body (if you just put it in some corner, it still counts as 'no causalities'). Also works with Aerial takedown, with leg implants you can do them from ground level.
-If neccessray: silenced guns/throwing knifes. These have a risk that someone might still hear it
  • Reboot Optics - temporarily blinds the target, but is traceable, so you'll need to move away quickly to outdistance the trace, or eliminate the target doing the trace if you can identify them
  • Distract Enemies - use this on an electronic device near the target to divert their attention. this is not traceable and you can do it multiple times as needed to allow you time to get through doors or get behind them to perform a takedown.
  • Cool Skill tree - take a look in the Cool skill tree and toss a few points into minimize the noise your character makes
  • It's okay to kill people on convert quests, you just can't be detected while doing it. You can do this by using take downs, or quick hacks (if you're either careful to take out everyone before the trace hits you OR you outdistance the trace without being seen).

Thanks all. Gives me some nice ideas. I guess I need more Cyberware etc.

But I guess I was on the right path.

Trying to get some $$$ to buy some more wares.

Don't forget to hide bodies, btw.

Take a handgun with lots of damage and a silencer, have along with it the stats 'X% damage with crouched/sneaking. Most low level enemies are easy to one shot in the head (those with not a black border within the health bar)

Sonic shock (canceling tracing), then other cyberware attack (short circuit, synopsis). If you get traced, try to flee and get out of range (then it fails) before it is complete

Scan (tab), then press MMB to at a marker on enemy, so you can follow the movements. If you are lucky, you can sneak and take it down with F or R (if you do not wish to kill). Be wary not to leave the body

Use whatever you can to distract them (tv, vending machine, etc) to let them face the other way you are

Or.... get the police to chase you and run to the gig, sometimes that works too.... sometimes....

So with hacking now you can upload multiple hacks to the same person. Sonic shock is the hack that cuts off a person from their net so that followed by overheat or short circuit will knock them out without raising the alarm. takedowns when crouching behind them will do the same thing.

Now if the enemy becomes alerted and starts looking for you that still does not count as combat.

Combat has only occurs if the red "combat" appears under your minimap. Having so many hours in this game, there are a few gigs I can now by sneaking past everyone without using a hack or takedown but it is not that common a possibility with most gig.

You can also kill everybody silently in most gigs and no one cares. Wako sayign "you were like a gost, no one knew you were there" and my V left a carpet of 20 dead bodies.

There are a few gigs where you are not supposed to kill anyone but they are quite rare.

To add to this, MOST gigs, even some main quests have alternate ways to approach the objective. Like the club mentioned here, if its the one im thinking of there are a few side entry points that have skill checks. If you can use them, it can cut down a good portion of possible interaction al to gether.

Thanks again.

This particular gig had a security guard with locked door. I guess if I took him out quietly I could have take his access card. However at that point they already detected me so it was a full on battle.

Maybe I’ll try to replay it for practice. I have a save just before it started.
you should always do a bit of recon if you plan on taking the stealth approach, if you're running a hacker build take control of the first camera you see and tag all enemies you see, then you should run around (and very often on top of) the building see if there's doors/windows/latches you can use to get in so to avoid dealing with the usual bouncer at the front entrance, make use of silent weapons (including throwing knives) and hide bodies
edit: double jump is king

I know what gig you are talking about, it used to be able to do it purely in stealth but I think they changed it now. You can get inside the club in a side entrance but no matter what you do once you get inside the room with the guy it's scripted for him to talk to you. I guess they have changed it cause I remember on my previous playthroughs being able to knock him down if you were unseen. It's a shame.

After 900+ hrs I've only now found that 'distract enemies' hack on the worklights you see around the place blinds them. Mainly because I accidentally blinded myself when I finally tried it. Very handy for sprint runs from point to point, especially with optical camo.

nearly all gigs like that have multiple 'secret' alternate entrances into the place that you need to scour the surroundings for or climb up onto the roof, go down an alleyway, climb through a window, take out a single guy silently thats guarding the back door ect ect.

these alternate paths are usually designed so you can just sneak to the objective or a computer where you can disable the security cameras.

another big thing that makes these much easier is hackign the cameras off with your 'TAB' eye view.

if you are using melee cyberware like the sandevistan or berserk that's not an option and those cyberwares are somewhat designed to ignore "sneaking" anyway and jsut go in and cause carnage.
on that note the sandevistan is actually pretty awesome for stealth as you can often just zoom through a place without getting fully detected lol

all in all doing what the fixer asked usually just results in a few more eddies and some alternate dialogue. other than that it doesn't really matter if you follow their directions to a T as long as the main objective is met.
there's no consequences for doing it your way (eddies aside)

just crouch and remember to store your weapon in front of the club. If you don't store your weapon, you'll get into a fight. Like there's only one guard inside the club and they look towards the club balcony, so go past through em from behind them. There's even a table as cover if you somehow still get spotted. The other one on the computer room can be knocked out easily.

Early game its not a sin to sell weapons/gear/junk you get, but mid-late game you wanna break them all down (highlight and hold Z)
