How to Refill Ammo during combat
Crafting tab disappears during combat

How to resupply then?

There are ammo boxes lying around in most mission areas, but the best way to avoid running out is to fill up before combat. You can craft it, sure, but I always find it or buy it since it's cheap. Maybe have a backup weapon, too.

Ammo has no weight, if i recall. 800 pustol/smg, 800? Rifle/AR, 150 shotshell, 100 sniper. Thats a truckload. If you are burning off more thsn those quantites in a combat, ammo isnt your problem...its aiming.

Sorry, that sounds a tad narky, not meant to be. If you loot well as you go, you will soon end up with heaps of ammo, and heaps of coin. Its just a matter of topping up after that.

You simply resupply before combat.

I never craft ammo, hurts my immersion, I buy it. In fact I never craft anything when I'm not in my stash. Makes no sense that you are able the craft items out of thin air with your bare hands while standing on a road, imho.

In 120 hours since 2.00 dropped I ran out of one kind of ammo once, and I simply changed to a different weapon.

Yeah no ammo issue in story mission

But fighting MaxTac... The Problem Solver thinks the ammo supply is lacking :y

Have a back up weapon of another type ready just in case.

crafting ammo is what breaks your immersion? seriously? in a world where i can light your literal spinal cord on fire with a computer chip in my brain? in a world where my arm can contain a rocket launcher that manufactures its own shells? in a world where laser weapons shoot through walls but still somehow require the same bullets as regular guns?

tell me you are a cognitively dissonant contrarian without telling me.

Laser weapons? What laser weapons?

Yea, that's pretty much the only way to conserve ammo for extended combat durations.

Or run away far enough to remove Combat Status, restock, go back then kill more Barghest dogs.

Best practice is to keep an eye on your ammo count and top it up whenever it begins to get low, either by crafting or purchasing...whichever method seems most 'real' to you.

Now that pistols and SMGs use the same ammo, even the 900 rounds you can carry get used up pretty quickly, and it can be strangely hard to find, compared to shotgun and sniper ammo. I practically never had to craft ammo in the old (pre 2.0) game...in 2.0 I've had to craft and buy more than I ever did.

Use that and forget about needing ammo. I love throwing rounds down range just trying to get a police missile launcher vehicle.

You can't, combat disables crafting in part specifically to prevent this. It's part of the challenge. Try to make sure you have guns that use different ammo types so you don't burn through one type and have nothing to work with.

Change your weapons.

Even if you don't have any skill points allocated in the weapons you don't use as regular guns or your preferred guns, you still can use them.

Throwing knives cost no ammo and are kind of great to headshot with ;)

If you are going to use knives read the line that says something like "recovery time" (return time to be precise) in the knife's description. If it's low then the knife kind of sucks IMHO.
