Everything is viable, but SMGs and assault rifles, outside specific ones, are generally the weakest.
Let's say it helped me a lot to use a Smart SMG

The rest is just adding more RAM and armour, the most comes from the perks and attributes. The critical is really handy for Smart, doing mostly headshots, and there are cyberware to also let quickhacks do critical damage. I was hoping to find more cyberware shards, but after hours of running Pacifica and other places, the cap was stuck on 240, so Iconics were out of options beside one. And do not forget 'Overclock' perk, and the 'Queue' perk
One more tip: Use 'sonic shock' before a traceable hack, mostly that cancels the tracing
Other fun: Cyberpsychosis, after a sonic shock, on an elite is just fun to watch
