Edge Runners??
I keep seeing references to Edge Runners in the Art and Media around the game. Do I need to see Edge Runners to understand anything about the game?

Not at all, quite the opposite. If you wish to understand any of the references then you will want to see Edgerunners, but they in no way have any deep connection to the game. It is mostly just for fans of the show.

No, all the references are just little nods to the fans but you dont have to watch the show. But let me tell you, the show is not popular without a reason :) so i do recommend to check it out

It's just flavor, you don't need to see the show. You might be able to find some cool items if you've seen it, but you can always google where they are too.

This is what I was curious about. Whats the correlation with the show and the game?

If anything, you should play the game before watching Edgerunners.

Just the setting is the same. There are no real story connections except for a few Easter eggs in the game.

Same universe. The show came after the game and the devs liked it

The show was created since 2020 and came out in 2022 and plays in the same setting. The setting is from the tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020.
It includes many concepts from the cyberpunk novels Neuromancer and Hardwired (and some others). The Santistevan combat cyberware from Hardwired is referenced as Sandevistan :) The concept of imprinting personalities is from Neuromancer, although they cannot overwrite their host, but are used as trainers. Soulkiller is basically from Hardwired, where it is used to get rid of the megacorps boss at the end, and there is a short story about what happened afterwards.
