Q: How to scan patient?

I'm rescuing Lucy Thackarey for her sister.
Lucy is a nurse bending over a mutant on a bed.
She tells me to scan him - but I don't know how to!!

The magnifying glass shows up but when I try to scan I get no options to run a scan ...
Any ideas?

You should just have some scripted dialogue from V about pressure and temperature falling.

You don't need to do anything but open the scanner and look at him.

tab. use your cyber eyes like everything else in the game you need to scan
once you've scanned him V will state his condition and the Doc will tell you to grab an injection from the nearby table.

What was already said, plus the following:
Sometimes the focus where you need to scan is not directly on the magnifying glass, so you might have to move around a little. When you hear a beep and a process starts you have to stay there and keep your scanner mode active for a couple of seconds until you get the analysis.

If scanning somehow doesnt work, you can also just shoot the guy to get her to follow you outside.

I’ve been assuming I still need to do the scan because the magnifying glass is still yellow/gold rather than greyed out - ie. Showing completion.

Does the magnifying glass grey out once its complete?

Nope there is just the dialogue I mentioned, then you turn off the scanner and use the hypo.

If you are stuck just kill him to advance the quest, you don't lose anything from doing that in 2+

I went back a save and started the conversation with her again. Turns out I did everything normally - it just didn't 'feel' complete. I think once the magnifying glass scans are done then the magnifying glasses should grey-out to show completion.
