Good PC, low perf ?
Hello everyone,

I'm not a PC expert by any means, though I managed to build my own PC a few years ago. Over time, I've replaced some components in an effort to keep it up to date.

I'm a bit frustrated because, on paper, my configuration seems pretty decent. However, I'm experiencing subpar performance in certain games.
On Cyberpunk on medium-high settings, I struggle to maintain FPS above 30/40... With drops.

I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions on how I can enhance my current setup.

Here's what I'm working with:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz (16 CPUs), ~3.8GHz

Memory: 16384MB RAM

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

Monitor: DELL U3414W, 3440x1440 - 60 Hz

I've recently overclocked my GPU and my fans' speed.

If you need more information, please let me know!

Thanks!

I assume you are playing at 4K resolution, main issue here is your graphics card has 8GB of VRAM, and you would need more at that resolution. if you use a program to monitor VRAM usage, you might see it approaching 100% leading to FPS drops

If you're playing at 4k turn to 1440.

If it's a CPU problem lower crowd density.

Use DLSS if you're not.

I'm guessing it's CPU related tbh.

If you mean Dogtown specifically, I think about everyone frame drops there since it's just not well optimized. It's very vertical in some places and it's crammed full of things, very dense. CPU's don't like that.

A 3070ti should be able to handle this game decently at 3440x1440, even with standard ray tracing on.

Post your in game settings.

Screen Space Reflections, Ambient occlusion, and volumetric fog resolution have the biggest performance hit (not counting RT.)

Play in 1440 or 2k

What kind of ram? ddr3? ddr4?

Thanks a lot for your answers and your reactivity.

@abel I'm currently playing on 3440x1440 so I'm not in 4K.
I've made a few tests, trying to track my VRAM and I during my FPS drops (30 FPS or below) I see :
- Allocated VRAM : 7653 MB
- Dedicated VRAM : 6776 MB
Don't know how to interprete that :p

Here are my game settings :

NVIDIA DLSS
DLSS Frame generation : OFF
DLSS Super resolution : AUTO
DLSS sharpeness: 0.80
DLSS Ray reconstruction : OFF

RESOLUTION SCALING :
Dynamic resoultion scaling : off

BASIC :
Field of view : 90
Film grain : off
CHromatic aberration : off
Dept of field : off
Lens Flare : on
Motion blur : off

ADVANCED
Contact shadows : on
Improved facial lighting geometry : off
Anisotropy : 16
Local shadow mesh quality : high
local shadow quality : high
cascaded shadow range : high
cascaded shadows resolution : high
distand shadows resolution : low
volumetric frog resolution : high
volumetric cloud quality : high
max dynamic decals : high
screen space reflections quality : medium
subsurface scattering quality : high
ambient occlusion : high
color precision : high
mirror quality: medium
LOD : high
crowd density : high

RAY TRACING
Everything is on except : ray traced lightning (off), path tracing and path tracing in photo mode

What do you think?

Thanks a lot :)

Your monitor is an UltraWide? That will effect performance in-itself.
Editing your post so i dont have to re type, to what i would use.

Here are my game settings :

NVIDIA DLSS
DLSS Frame generation : OFF
DLSS Super resolution : AUTO ~ Balanced can work well but auto is usually pretty good too. obv not quality unless jacked pc
DLSS sharpeness: 1
DLSS Ray reconstruction : OFF

RESOLUTION SCALING :
Dynamic resoultion scaling : off

BASIC :
Field of view : 90
Film grain : off
CHromatic aberration : off
Dept of field : off
Lens Flare : on
Motion blur : off

ADVANCED
Contact shadows : on
Improved facial lighting geometry : off
Anisotropy : 8
Local shadow mesh quality : high
local shadow quality : high
cascaded shadow range : med
cascaded shadows resolution : high
distant shadows resolution : low
volumetric frog resolution : med
volumetric cloud quality : low
max dynamic decals : high
screen space reflections quality : medium
subsurface scattering quality : med - pretty sure this affects every NPC skin and will decrease the higher you crowd density is
ambient occlusion : high
color precision : high
mirror quality: medium
LOD : high
crowd density : high

RAY TRACING

this is up to you, but a lot of people with perf. issues only uses RT reflections, reflections are a massive part of this games RT, the others you can notice less

*edit

Make sure chrome or browser etc are closed. Chrome can easily use up to 20% VRAM/GPU usage

Yes, my monitor is ultrawide... That's one of my hypotheses; maybe I should switch to a less wide screen.

Thank you very much for your comment. I'll make the changes you've suggested.

I naively thought that my configuration would allow me better performance on high settings, but apparently not :D

Goodluck choom

as an alternative if you can;t just get it right with no dips, you could try all settings high/ultra etc and performance dlss,
i used that for a while and found it fine

Just go with the HUB 'quality' preset. Those volumetric settings are performance hogs, apparently. Try dlss quality, the image quality might still seem close to native, with extra frames.

On my 3070 @ 1440p alt tabbing will eventually cause a crash, it's just as well to restart the game. I have to use medium textures if using RT effects to avoid crashing. I can use RT local shadows and cap the game at 60. The game seems to struggle with memory management.

Your RAM is running at its base speed which is less than ideal. Make sure you activate the xmp profile in your bios.

I have the same problem, my monitor is 1980x1080, cpu i7-10700KF, 32gb RAM and graph 3070. I tried all and didnt work... All low or medium-low, with RT and without... I tried on my old pc with i5 and 1070 and work perfectly at medium-low, 30-40fps no drops hahaha Its so weird xDD

weak processor, slow RAM, 4k resolution on a 3070ti (bad, only a 4090 should run 4k).

I'm not playing in 4k. "Slow RAM", you mean, should I add an extra 16gb ?

BTW thanks everyone, I'll try what you've suggested :)
