Befriending Johnny; Pointers
If you're having problems befriending Johnny, and you cannot find the information properly anywhere else, much like myself, I hope this helps.

Now, the steps I personally took was googling "how to get high friendship with Johnny", it kept resulting in an IGN guide, giving me a list of missions and their walk throughs, none of which telling me if I needed to say anything specific, and upon coming to steam forums, people would list the following as though it was remotely helpful;

"Automatic Love - Transmission - LifeDuring War Time - tape worm - search and destroy - chippin in blistering love - holdin on - a like supreme"

This.. Is not helpful.

To start with what is.

You have to be in Chapter 2 and have talked to Takemura, you can walk around and do everything before talking to Takemura, which is absolutely stupid game design because talking to him triggers a couple of things you need to happen, such as Tarot cards showing up.

The next thing you need to do is talk to Rogue in The Afterlife, because the missions that are going to bump up your friendship with Johnny are the Panam Quests, pay attention to them, Johnny will want validating, so just agree with him as much as the game lets you at all times.
(It's easy to tell him where to shove it and not get friendship points.. try refrain here.)

After the Panam quests are done, you're going to be searching for the "Chippin In" quest and waiting for Johnny to pop up in the Afterlife, because every stupid google result will say "you gotta do chippin in'" but refuse to tell you how to find it.

How you find it is going along with Takemura until after a kidnapping gig, main questline, can't miss it, unless you hate Takemura and are afraid it'll lock you into an unwanted Arasaka ending so have avoided it until all other missions run out.. Turns out, you have to do this to get Chippin In.

And that kidnap gig morphs into Search and Destroy and THEN Tapeworm, and finishes leaving you with A Cool Metal Fire, you're on rails here so you really wont miss it.

So if you've put it off for forever.. Hope this helps.

I always found it fairly easy to befriend Johnny. Don't be too nice, be snarky and stand your ground, and resolve quests in ways he likes, such as the Delamain quest. As far as I know, only one/two questlines actually matter for the secret ending, and that's Rogues date and finding his grave, where, in the latter, you have to say specific things to pass the checks.

A couple of them appear to be big friendship gainers.

Doing the Voodoo Boys questline and agreeing with him after meeting Alt goes a very long way.

I think I skipped getting any friend percentage from Life During Wartime as I never punched Hellman, but I am pretty sure that nets you some as well.

I was starting to feel panicked at only 40% and thought I couldn't unlock Johnny's questline since I had searched and searched, so once I just gave up, I found it, and thought I'd let others know.
Kinda feel really silly now of course, thinkin' I had missed it and all.
