I'm not missing your point, you're just wrong. He literally did everything he could to try to kill Smasher because he just pancaked Rebecca and Smasher laughed in his face and stomped him into the dirt.
There's absolutely no way he could have won that fight. Adam is faster, smarter, stronger, more ruthless, and with way better tech.
I understand what you trying to say but i just look whole fight. Adams armor is not better, the one David used was meant to be upgrade for Adam witch means it should be better. If he didnt got shot in back from Adam witch also limited his use of Sandevistan who knows what could have happen. David made a mistake when he didnt put all of his attention on Adam because full Psycho with that armor he could beat Adam.
If it was so much better then why is Adam still in his Dragoon body a year later? It's not like they couldn't make another Exo-Suit. It was way too reliant on the gravity tech, which is exactly what Smasher says before he rips it to pieces. Nothing Arasaka has ever put out has come close to beating the Dragoon, and that's coming straight from Pondsmith himself.
Nothing suggests that being shot in the back limited David's Sandevistan in any way. He was shot in the back while he was using it because Adam popped his, and his was faster.
I don't know where you're getting the idea that David wasn't giving it his all. He used everything he possibly could after Rebecca's death and Adam killed him easily. He's literally just some random kid who got a military Sandevistan.
Adam Smasher has been killing people since before David was even born. There's absolutely no comparison to be made.
V is quite possible the strongest mercenary ever as of the end of the story.
Does it matter? If you like cyberpunk you can also read a cyberpunk book thats not canon or isnt that good and still enjoy it.
I dunno why you cant not give things a fair shot because some lone braincell in your head refuses to rub with another.
Its not like I suggest trying out crystal meth or something lol
Also you could skip forward and only look for scenes you enjoy, usually there is always something you like if you give it a try.
Oggg, yad trariot rig jig - indoody. Elbeony reel friz adda callum baladdio ritza. Heeb ho, fritter!
I reckon I gave the show a fair shot since I watched it through to the end rather than turning it off in the early cringe sections, it was still bad. Like honestly wtf was this ♥♥♥♥ here?

One of the single most cringe things I've ever seen and pretty indicative of the shows quality going forward, should have stopped right here and never looked back tbh.
What's the point of watching something if you're constantly skipping over scenes?' At that point just accept you don't like it and find something else to watch.
Realised I never answered OP's question, the answer is V and there's no room for debate.
David with backup and fully borged up got absolutely demolished by Smasher, V with no backup and with anywhere from light chrome to no chrome demolished a stronger more experienced Smasher.
the only good part of t he anime is when smasher turned rebecca into goo
Max level V vs David at his peak?
V, hands down. No contest. Heck, you can even have David at his peak with Main and crew all alive and well and on their A-game and V would still win.
The only chance they would have is if V was using a berserk implant rather than a Sandevistan or a cyberdeck. The others wouldn't be able to keep up with V using a Sandy except for David (who never met anyone else who had one so it would take him by surprise), and all that cyberware they've got packing would be useless against a netrunner V.
Doesn't matter at that point.
David had effectively lost his marbles. He was barely avoiding being a cyberpsycho and was mentally gone.
Yes, his goal was to get Lucy out, yes he took a shot to the gut because he got distracted by Faraday being taken out on a stretcher, but that just goes to show his lack of experience. He didn't have the mindset or experience to take on Adam, and his sanity was eroded almost to the point of non-existence by the time they met. He was hallucinating his mother and was calling Rebecca his mom as he dipped in and out of reality.
David never had a shot.
They are both career criminals and mass murderers.
It's Cyberpunk.
David vs V? I would put my money on David in most cases depending on build and assuming David is PC quality reflected by what we see in game of the character.
The primary consideration is we must consider his cyberware. He essentially starts with the Apogee. Able to on/off and it has intense time slowdown.
For a player to compete, would need the same or requires significant stealth. The comment about quickhacking I don't think would work because the ability he is able to make use of his sandy plus brawling skills means would probably blitz player and take them out before quickhack could upload.
David has zero combat skills, can't really fight, can't shoot, and has absolutely zero chill. The entirety of the anime he relies wholly on his Sandevistan. He gets completely annihilated by Adam Smasher, who, again, loses to V. V kills plenty of enemies in the game that can use a Sandevistan.
No way David comes out on top. V is one of the strongest and most capable characters in Cyberpunk history, not to mention the fact that Pondsmith has said he's basically immune to cyberpsychosis due to the Relic. David is a mid-tier enemy at best. He needs the backup of his entire gang to even scratch the surface of some of the gigs V pulls off.
V is capable of storming Arasaka tower alone, and taking out one of the most dangerous legends in Night City history. David could barely last two minutes in combat against Smasher. And his Cyberware? He has a military grade Sandevistan, compared to V who pretty much always ends the game with legendary tier Cyberware in every single slot.
Anime is canon, and David and his crew are canonically like, level 20 mercs.
