I really like your idea. It's much more interesting and dramatic to try to save your best buddy instead of yourself.
Don't get me wrong... i like Keanu, but i find Actors in Video games to terribly distracting, downright immersion breaking. It takes me out of the whole "Roleplay" aspect and constantly reminds me "this is just a video game".
