Haven't figured out what exactly levels the skill, outside of blades and assault rifles. Something about parkouring, definitely.
As a rule of thumb - the usage of an attribute will improve the underlying skill progression. Or in other words: almost all actions improved by an attribute. (almost because I don't think using e.g. body or tech in dialogues will improve the skill)
For Shinobi it is using the sword and e.g. doing leaps over objects as this archetype is about being nimble.
Outside of combat certainly running, jumping and dashing. When I don’t drive, I run, double-jump, and then air-dash. It feels like it give shinobi xp more consistently and faster than running around punching the air used to for athletics pre-2.0 … but it’s not exactly fast levelling.
Dashing should work at least. But it won't happen often enough to bother trying. It's probably capped somehow so players can't AFK farm it, like between combat states or duration in time.
And how much xp I've received from Katana + SMG + Assault Rifle useage.
Oh, and sliding into cover like Ty Cobb every chance I get.
