Mantis Blades: Leap Attack
Game's a blast and all but anyone else has an issue with the Leap Attack animation never triggering? Like. I remember he first lunges towards the enemy and then he hits them, stabs them, lift them up and then drops them... but now he only hits them.

I've been using Mantis Blades the most but hardly seen it happen.

Could it be, by any chance, that getting the Blade Finisher perk conflicts with it? But I fail to see how those things would conflict with each other.

AFAIK that animation was removed from the game entirely. It was a random Mantis Blade finisher, and wasn't actually tied to the leap attack. It would trigger during normal melee attacks as well.

You can't perform finishers without the perk at all, as they no longer trigger randomly.

It was very buggy and broke slow time effects, so I'm personally quite happy it was removed.

Blade Finisher forces your finishers to be opt-in for the benefits, rather than the automatic deaths. Spatial Mapping will also increase dismemberment chance which ♥♥♥♥♥ with it a little.

Hmm... I don't have the DLC, so I'm not sure if the Spatial Mapping Relic Perk(introduced in Phantom Liberty) should affect my game, for it technically doesn't exist in it.

As for the Blade Finisher, I'll try with refunding that perk and see if it changes anything, hopefully it does.

Oh, I see. That explains everything. I know it was kind of buggy and after looking up about it came across quite some complaints so I can see why they chose to remove it entirely.

On a different note... I just found something weird. I'm doing a new playthrough and currently going through The Heist mission. I was at the rooftop to get the Satori katana, there were two big guys guarding the flying vehicle. I approached one from behind and instead of the "Grab" prompt, I got a "Takedown" prompt and it triggered this cool takedown animation with the Mantis Blades(not to be confused with the one with the jump takedown).

Sadly, as advance in the mission, I tried to get it working on other enemies, but they only give me the "Grab" prompt and V just does the common bare handed takedowns.

I'll try to record it(if my PC doesn't explode lol) or at least take several screenshots as this animation plays out because I honestly didn't even know it was a thing. And seeing that it is, I don't understand why it isn't possible outside of this particular scenario.

Yep, you're not crazy. There are Mantis Blade takedowns, but only in The Heist, for some reason. I've also gotten the prompt when you're fighting the guys in the garage.

I also have no idea why they didn't carry that over to the main game. It's pretty sweet.

I just figured it out. The animation looked weird, like the left Mantis Blade seemed to stab the air... so I tried bare handed... And yep, it's not a real Mantis Blade stealth takedown, but a regular bare handed stealth takedown... It's just that for some reason the game let's you do it even with the blades on during this mission. Most likely a bug.

Kinda sad, they really should have added new stealth animations, the bare handed are not that good and they get old so quick.

Knife takedowns will haunt your dreams, ranged ones are fun as hell though. For mantis leaps one tip I can give is that blade perks seem to effect mantis blades like deflecting bullets but most importantly the charge attack range perk which will further increase your leap attack range when used with the relic skill from PL.

They show a leap attack followed by a finisher in the trailer, which is entirely possible, but it's 2 things in rapid succession. Can be hard to pull off on normal enemies, because they tend to die in the initial impact. Btw, about the aforementioned finisher bug, it used to effect every weapon and it would pull you out of bullet time and leave you vulnerable while the animation was playing. Mantis blades were especially notorious because of the exceedingly long animations. Thankfully they fixed these issues in 2.0. You still don't want to trigger finishers in sando mode probably, because it takes up precious time. Outside sando however, it's the way to go.
