It's a fair point to say that V's original employer was/is Songbird and thus it makes narrative sense to stick with her. Unfortunately, I think if the player decides to "take the oath", then it changes the equation.
Edit: However, I often thing there's several parallels to characters from the main game. In many ways, So Mi is Evelyn and Reed is Deshawn, if Deshawn had a shred of honor.
V can swing some magical wand making a dream to come true. Something which he/she have no luck to had. King of Wands.
Reed, however, he have died long ago in that train. No Reed anymore, just blind NUSA obeing dog.
So mi was dying and did what she could
Sure, but by the point that you have to make the choice, it's already apparent that Songbird hoodwinked you, and that her promises may be as empty as everything else she said.
Reed's a zealot. Enjoyed wasting him.
I've seen a lot of people online complaining about it but I have to say that the "horror" aspect(if you can even call it that) was super cool. You also gain access to the Cerberus core for some added fun.
Depending on who you'd rather side with I think that either the King of Cups or King of Wands is the route to go. Maybe do King of Pentacles if you want to get the tower ending, but story wise I'd recommend the first two I mentioned. Honestly it's hard to say what ending is best, they all have their own drawbacks.
Surviving isn't enough imo: it's the price you put on your life that matter.
And maybe my V is Johnny flavoured now, but selling yourself to a corpo or a government, just isn’t life. As it isn’t a life worth living if it is emptied of chooms to live with (which is why, Don’t Fear the Reaper is my preferred ending).
And if my V cannot save himself at his conditions, at least let him save someone who's his mirror, just as flawed and dying and scared, even without a dead rockerboy in the head.
At the very least, all the controversy surrounding her is fun to read.
