When should you do Phantom Liberty?

So I know you unlock it after the VDB content, but I've seen quite a bit of places on my first PL run, that highly encourage finishing up all the base game content first. Because you have so many places that it references back to that content, or it actually gives you more options on how to resolve stuff. BUUUUT, I've also seen bits here and there where you get other content in the base game, if you've already done PL first.

So, for anyone that's done it a few times through, and actually tried out the different order, what do you suggest? Is there much in the way of base game alterations to warrant dipping into Dogtown as soon as you hear from Songbird? Or is your gameplay really better served just holding off and doing base game to it's completion before Dogtown?

what gear do u want? netrunner and want Canto for the rest of the game? then clearly PL. ETC`

personally i like going for PL as soon as possible to get better cyberware n perks. the blackwall smg you can get from one of the paths you choose is really fun as well.

I'd make sure your build is in order. The fight against a giant mech during opening had me reloading.

whereas if you do PL first youll get a couple lines of dialogue if you do most main content first you will get unique dialogue AND be able to end many of the PL gigs in alternative ways. Main first, then PL.

I would say do it when you've done almost everything in the main game before any ending options. That way you can modify your build anyway you want without worry about points and so forth.

No mainline quest string should be done back to back. This includes the PL story quest. But all the sidemissions are too good to pass up and should be accessed ASAP.

Ok so let me clarify. Not talking about gear/implants/etc, I'm talking about story related stuff. Is there much change to base game content, storywise, if you do PL first? For example, I know if you do all of Regina's Cyberpsycho missions first, AND do them non-lethal, you get another option to resolve a PL gig. I'm curious if there is anything similar the other direction? Where having done PL before say....I dunno...random example, the Badlands gigs or something, you'll see different results/options/etc. Or maybe with the main quest lines. I've seen hints that there are some extra dialogue lines in a few places, but not very much.

imo soon as you unlocked it, both alt/hellman have new dialogue if you have completed it

Yeah but is it like, only 1 or 2 lines of dialogue in the whole game? Versus a LOT of stuff carrying over into PL from base game?
