sandevistan just doesn't measure up to netrunning
Netrunning is incredibly powerful and versatile. It lets you one tap almost every enemy in the game and you can clear entire rooms without getting touched, as well as provide many other useful utilities. The sandevistan is just a basic bullet time ability with two applications. If it functioned more like it did in Edgerunners it would be on par with netrunning but it just doesn't compare.

Thing is, how powerful do you need to be? I went Sandi my first (pre 2.0) run and found it utterly trivialised most encounters. Ended up having to say I wasn't going to use it unless I absolutely had to. Which wasn't exactly often. Tried a netrunner build and yeah, you log into a camera and just delete people. Certainly more dead people for less effort. But like, I'm sitting behind a cargo container just deleting people. I think they've reigned it in a bit in 2.0, but this time round I'm pretty much ignoring OS's.

Pre-2.0 netrunner maybe.
Netrunner in 2.0 kinda sucks though, all the hacks cost more and you can't spam them out like you used to. Not to mention the new trace mechanic where everyone homes in on your location instead of just the person being hacked killing stealth hacking.

Sande can clear a room with no trouble while a Netrunner keeps waiting for their ram to recharge every 2 hacks. And boy are boss fights a bad time with a Netrunner, you need to keep running in circles to avoid being with while letting off the occasional hack whenever your ram allows it. Compared to a sande where you can just go ham on them.

It's because they Nerf it in 2.0, the best one pre Nerf is the QianT Sandevistan Mk.4 which has a cool down of 15 secs but has 3 mod slots that you can install heat sinks to bring it to 3 secs.

Now it's just plain pointless because you have to hide during the cool down.

How about using both? Sandevistan + monowire relic control quickhacks. You can use the iconic weapon that puts quickhacks on enemy as well.

idk..... ive had more fun in 2.0 with quickhacking than I did in 1.0..... the combinations you can pull off seem more impressive from personal experience.... like in pacifica near beach using contagion and overheat can clear 4 groups of 3 and the group near the car in one go.... or how you can use things like provoke a enemy netrunner to start tracing your location with say a silent pistol nearby and then use counter a hack to spread quickhacks to everyone on the network (something like blackwall for instance)....

quickhacks may cost more RAM but thats because you have more RAM than normal when you can turn your health into RAM itself.... which synergizes with health regen and RAM regen combined.... adding on top of that in tech tree getting borrowed time along with biomonitor... your can regen health, RAM, and health items so fast... once you get rolling with it you regen more RAM than you are using...

of course like ive said before Ive never played with Sande.... but im really loving 2.0 netrunner changes.... even the tracing thing makes more sense now to me... makes dealing with the network as an extra obstacle... I mean... all enemies are connected to the network.... if you take one out while still connected its the network that kicks in to solve the issue kinda like an antivirus program and your the virus on the system....

sandevistan throwing-knife build can proc 3+ status effects in exteremely short order--which i believe is the biggest asset that netrunners have combat-wise as well--on top of the time-slowing effect of sandevistan itself.....playing it on the hardest difficulty and it's more-than-viable.

edit: its also very fun 🤡

While Sandy is more than viable(and Berserk to a lesser extent), it's pretty obvious that the new team who took over the development for Phantom Liberty want players to play in the "intended" way, which is a mid-to-short range netrunner.

There are a LOT of perks which make your attacks stronger the closer you are to enemies for both quickhacks and most weapons. Also there are more mitigation and armor perks that are affected by close proximity than long distance. Most ranged weapons have severe damage drops if further than a few meters from your target. Smart weapons struggle in targeting anything pretty much not 10-15 meters in front of you. Several ranged weapons receive bonuses if you do a melee attack with them.

Heck, if you start a new game and choose the "skip to Phantom Liberty" option, they chose your stat allocation as 4 Body, 4 Cool, 9 Int, 9 Tech, 9 Reflexes. It really feels like they didn't want PL to be an RPG and dragged their feet on everything regarding the RPG aspects of Cyberpunk.

You don't need quickhacks when you can just move faster than light and kill enemies faster than light.

with quickhacks though you dont even need to leave your vehicle.... just keep chillin to the radio station while you take everyone out...

I just wish you could do some basic quickhacking with sandy or berserk. There's a few stealth missions where it's impossible to do them with the sandy.
Yeah, I do wish there was a middle ground where you could have both without having to use a mod.

Sandi + Problem Solver = problems solved

I got bored with my pre 2.0 netrunner and never finished the game with him. It was just ridiculously easy to wipe out an entire building by hacking the surveillance system and then spreading contagion and epic hacks to everyone. It felt like I was just watching people die instead of actually playing the game. I find the sandevistan to be so much more fun, with melee or guns. I did do one run through with a sort of jack of all trades V, that mixed combat and hacking and it was pretty fun. A cyberdeck is also incredibly useful for stealth missions.

Problem is....Netrunning is beyond boring. No issues with 2k headshots from a sniper or revolver.
See the problem is saying things like "yeah but X is boring, but Y is fun" is entirely subjective. I personally found playing a sandi/katana build back in 1.6 to be fairly dull. I know it's supposed to be exciting, but it didn't feel very exciting to me. It wasn't fun. Netrunning was though. I enjoyed the game of playing around with the camera angles, and finding ways to cluster enemies and take them out with hacks, etc. It wasn't nail biting intense, but again, neither was sandi fighting either.

So ultimately it's just down to what a person has fun playing. I'm currently trying out a gorilla arms/electricity/lightning build and maximizing all the ways I can inflict electricity damage, and basically try and play as Thor, to see how fun it is. Might be fun, might not, we'll see. If I don't enjoy it, I'll dust off a netrunner build and try a different variant this time.
