Stealth is dead as a netrunner. Please nerf tracing.
Listen, I'm not here to argue with people about how you "should" play the game. The style I like to play is a stealth netrunner who never enters active combat, and thanks to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tracing system, that is impossible. Who or what is even tracing me? I've knocked out everyone in sight.

As a netrunner, shouldn't I have the ability to track where the trace is coming from? Shouldn't I have the ability to stop it?
What was the point of deleting this play style?

There was an perk to shut down or at least slown down traces prior to 2.0 but it seems they removed it and have given no alternative. Or at least that I know of.

Also... just to be sure, but you did shut down all cameras in the vicinity beforehand yes? Otherwise you WILL get traced. Also there should be hacks which are untraceable and can influence the traceability.

Before this patch, whichever enemy I was targeting with hacks would be the one tracing me. The trace would end if I knocked said enemy out. The cameras are the first thing I take care of, but I don't think they're really the source. I've stood on top of a building and hacked people barely in range of my sight and still I was traced. There is no valid excuse for this current system. It needs to go.

There's a perk that makes explosions more powerful, there's an eye implant that highlights items you can explode. Do the math.

Can't trace you if you never hack them directly.

Im at my level 40 and excited to get the legendary decks just to know they remove the passives that wont let you get trace by a netrunner. Mind you im at hi
ghest difficulty and been struggling to play netrunner and it's my fave ever since launch. Right now its super underwhelming and not that good on highest difficulty with legendary chromes... Kinda wish i didnt do netrunner and i used up to reset attribute so im kinda stuck with it and im just gonna skip the dlc for now til they buff netrunner.

You can entirely avoid tracing by using Sonic Shock and then any other quickhack, because Sonic Shock cuts off enemies from the network so tracing cannot be initialized by them.

But yes, the tracing mechanic is terrible. A good idea on paper, but terribly executed which is just a shallow global timer with no specific target to take out.

If taking out a dedicated netrunner in a group would stop it then it'd be perfect, but right now in its current state it's just a terribly shallow dumb stealth gimmick that feels boring.

There are ways to remove the tracing, like using the takedown perk and memory wipe.

The best way is still sonic shock as opener.

Takedowns and Memory Wipe merely reset/reduce progress, not remove tracing. There currently is no way to stop tracing unfortunately.

Isn't there a perk that lets you see the tracing netrunner through walls and allows you to counter-hack them before they find you? Which in turn should give you all the time you need to take them out. Also, I saw several perks that relate to tracing, like slowing it down or cutting it back with takedowns and all that jazz.

That perk is only for outright combat when there is a Netrunner (orange highlighted enemy) in the group, so when they start hacking V there is a long red line that goes through walls to indicate who is performing the hack.

So unfortunately it has nothing to do with tracing itself, it's just for combat.

Hey it's like a stealth bomber. As long as they don't detect *you*

I think I misunderstood OP, then. Are they complaining about entering combat when they start to hack stuff? Like, when people's heads begin to melt their allies shouldn't notice that and keep on going?
I saw the old vids of netrunners clearing entire missions undetected and that looked cool and all but it made 0 sense. Like if people start going off the grid you definitely notice that, especialy if you're a security detail on watch.

It's funny because tier 4 sonic shock causes exactly this by design. Enemies can drop dead right in front of another enemy and nobody cares.

someone who doesnt want to adapt... at a cost of health you basically can wipe a entire party silently...

you have the ability to track a netrunner... and kill him instantly... been dealing with arasaka netrunner, they got coat attire, heavy orange highlight and always get highlighted when they are hacking on stealth mission... dunno what you are talking about..
