Key binding failed ... ?
lol, is it so "difficult" for devs to code a game so that it allows a player to bind an action in-game to whichever key they feel fit for their own brains/fingers?
ffs CDPR we shouldn't have to mod any file outside of the game.
Why do devs do this?

btw :steambored: 'nice' 2.0 update :taloslol:

Yeah for some reason C and CTRL cannot be switched for crouching for example. Noticed they've fiddled with keybinds a lot this update, so there's even a few default ones which clash against each other (such as Overclock and scrolling through quickhacks via default E button).

For now you can click on Windows icon > search %localappdata% > go to AppData\Local\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077 > and manually rebind the keys which are giving you issues.

it's their old engine. same reason there is basically no accessibility options.

This one triggered me the most. 3 years and still can't rebind stuff. JFC.

Yes. This. I’m sick and tired of double tap for dashing. Like I do stealth sometimes, I don’t want to double tap “W” out of accidence all the time.

I've always had this problem with games, some games I should say. I bind my keys in a really bizarre way on the right side of the keyboard, and once in a while Devs will make it so I can't bind certain keys. Lol

So I tried to bind my keys, but l-ctrl is bound to crouch and dash, and it ♥♥♥♥♥ up and you can't get out of the screen.

You can turn off that in the gameplay options.

OK,
so I mod'd to my liking the UserSettings.json file (in .....AppData\Local\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077)
and also the inputUserMappings.xml file (in ....steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077\r6\config)

and now somehow the game actually lets me re-bind those keys in-game.. no more "key binding failed" message.

maybe just a bug?

-gotta love tech.

It's utterly bizarre how they've disabled rebinding these keys. Thanks to R-S!N for the tip.

pffft, ok, after shutting down the game, taking a break to pee and eat, and restarting the game, my keybinds are still saved to my preference, but now it won't let me re-bind some of them in-game and it shows a "key binding failed" error again :steamfacepalm:
I guess I'll have to manually mod those files whenever I need a custom keybind for certain actions. geeeesh!

No. You can’t. I looked it up, I couldn’t find it.

You have to make sure the file you modify has 'Read-Only' checked, otherwise the game will always rebind your changes everytime you restart the game
