[Solved] Bolt Shots don't work.
Bolt, tech weapons perk. That's what it says:

>Lv.3: Unlocks Bolt shots. To fire a Bolt, release the trigger for a charged shot right before it fully charges: counts as a fully charged shot, +30% damage, -50% penalty for penetrating cover.

I still don't understand how this works. I hold the button to charge and release it before the weapon fires a charged shot, and then nothing happens. I don't see any difference if it's a Bolt shot or if it's a normal shot. So I added Chain Lighting perk, just to be able to see lightnings, and now, well, It works 1 time out of 15-20 shots for me.

I mean, what the actually ****? Am I doing something wrong, is this some kinda random, despite the fact that there is no mention of this in the description? Why does this work so damn bad?

Here's my small test both with Lizzie and Widowmaker. I did miss the timing for two shots, just to show how it looks but otherwise I have no issue consistently activating Bolt.

If there's an issue that's more drastic than what is shown in this video then I recommend reporting it as a bug directly to Support. They could definitely improve the signals since they do seem a bit bugged, but the mechanic itself works fine for me.

Hopefully that helps.
I wrote that this is exactly what I do, and it works 1 time out of 20, if I'm lucky.

If it's a random, it should be stated in the perk description, but it's not and it just looks like a broken mechanic that costs 4 perks. :steamsad:

Might be the timing being too strict.

I think this patch needs more time in the oven.

Man, it's so annoying and useless. :steamsad:

Yeah I thought bolt activated with full charge trigger release. Going to try out this early trigger release window tonight but if it's too small I might give up on tech weapon build.

It's very small, and looks more like a random. I refuse to use this until (and if) it gets fixed.

p.s. Day 2, It still doesn't work and I'm starting to hate it.

I've had no issue triggering it. It definitely works. It's a bit trickier to trigger with a shotgun or pistol just because you're usually focused on multiple other things at once (although it's still very possible to trigger), but with the sniper rifle specifically I can get it like 90% of the time.

There's also an audiovisual cue to indicate when in Bolt range. For Chaos, the crosshair blinks and it makes a chirping sound. Breakthrough will show the 'Release' text early and makes a similar chirping sound. I assume other weapons have something analogous but these were the only two tech weapons I had on hand.

They said it seems to be like using a charged slash from Monster Hunter where if you do it too early or too late it doesn’t work. Hopefully that helps.
this sounds annoying...and hacking sounds bad now, rip my build i guess lul

I use Comrade's Hammer, and it's impossible to understand at what moment I need to release the charge button in order to fire a Bolt Shot rather than a 100% charge. This is just completely bs and waste of perks.

If anyone understands exactly how it works, I need an explanation. :steamsad:

Why they couldn't make Bolt Shots permanent so that once you purchase the perk they will always work at 100% charge. Why are they adding a skill that can't be used normally?

There is an icon right next to the health bar showing when the BOLT charge is active and when regular charge is active, differentiated by up and down arrow icons.

On top of that not sure if other weapons do this, but with Lizzie for example the handgun makes a distinct sound when bolt is ready and also the sights blink too.

So there's a few ways to tell when exactly a bolt is happening. Personally I have no issues activating it, the timing is pretty generous.

So a regular charge is a down arrow, and a bolt charge is an up arrow, right?

Great, but it doesn't solve the main problem: at what monent to fire the shot, lol.

I stopped focusing on sound because it sounds exactly the same when I get the damn Bolt shot and when I don't.

With Lizzie it works 1 time out of 10-15 for me, but with a Comrade's Hammer it works 1 time out of 25-30 regular charge shot.

Here's the guy reports the same issue that it doesn't work with Lizzie and Quasar, but it should work with any Tech Weapon equally well. Otherwise, why spend 5-6 perks on skill that works 1 time out of 20, right?

Dude, I guess I finally figured out how to make it work. I just added the “Internak Clock” perk and now I have enough time to release the button ASAP when the “release” sign lights up. You need to do it immediately when this indicator appears.

Thank you very much!
