Cyberpunk 2077
Ray Tracing grainy/blurry
Hiya,

I tried out Path Tracing for s and giggles however.. everything got extremely grainy/blurry. Even switching back to regular raytracing keeps it blurry/grainy. Dlss is on quality. RTX 4070 + 5800x3d. It performs better framerate/frametime wise but something.. is wrong.

Anyone encountered the same thing?

To avoid grain disable DLAA

You can’t use DLAA and DLSS he’s using DLSS

People that does not meet the requirements have been trying to push PT and it have created some odd issues for many users.
People that did not touch PT, don´t have this issue.

PT requires atleast a 4070ti

This has nothing to do with framerate. I tried running it with and without a path tracing performance mod from Gamersnexus (which makes it run at over 60 fps). The artefacts are identical.

What monitor do you have? and its stats?
Do you have motion blur, film grain or depth of field on?
Running a 4090 (537.42 clean install) and deleted my UserSettings.json (resetting up config in menus) This is at 4k resoultion.
DLLS Framegen - On, DLSS - Quality, DLSS Sharpness - .5, Filmgrain - Off, Chromatic Aberration - Off, Path Tracing - On

Image is pretty clean and fine

Then as soon as I turn on Ray Reconstruction

Looks like a mess. Extreme film grain, that shimmers.
From my visual perspective, the image looks razor-sharp to me with DLSS on automatic with a sharpness of 80. With DLLS on quality (sharpness on 70-80) it somehow looks a little washed out.
I'm currently playing the game on a Gsync-enabled LG OLED 65 inch 120Hz TV with a resolution of 4096x2160p, my PC specs: RTX4090, i9 13900K, 64 GB DDR5 RAM and a Samsung 980 Pro Nvme m.2 SSD.
Maybe my visual taste is different than others. That's supposed to happen XD

Jesus Christ this is waaaay worse than mine, it's clearly evident that it's something abnormal, given that the "filmgrain" isn't even executed as well as the typical in-game filter, which is a matter of personal preference.
My image is less disrupted, but I have a massive amount of ghosting on moving objects, especially if they are 'lit up.' I initially thought it was just an issue with faces and hair, but take a look at this one-minute video where there's no doubt it's a problem with Ray Reconstruction. When it's active, my mouse cursor icon and white text are disgustingly plagued by ghosting. Disabling Ray Reconstruction makes the ghosting disappear.

I also have an RTX4090 and it definitely doesn't look the same as your pictures when I compared mine. For me, the one with RAYconstruction on is just a little brighter than the image without Rayconstruction on.

I can't understand why this happens to some users while everything remains perfect for others, even with the same graphics cards

Is your Windows up to date and your monitor driver? If so, I can only recommend that you go to on your local disk (for me it is C: it is actually always C: unless you have chosen a different letter for your main directory)/User/your username/AppData/Local/CD Projekt Red /Cyberpunk 2077 and delete UserSettings.json there. Afterwards you have to reset everything again in the graphics and video settings and perhaps also your key assignment if you have changed that.
Last but not least, if that doesn't help, you can actually just uninstall the graphics card driver and reinstall it.

Yes, absolutely, everything is correctly updated. I installed the new driver yesterday and again this afternoon, both times using a clean installation with DDU. I've deleted the .json file more times than I've cleaned my desk this week. I've also manually updated the DLSS SDK, but there was no improvement. As a last attempt, I completely uninstalled the game and deleted the UserSettings file again. I'll see once it finishes downloading, but I really don't think it will change anything. It's completely nonsensical.

So for those that asked. Screenshots of my settings. Pictures of a scene posted at the end. Only difference is turning Ray Reconstruction ON\OFF. Other settings to Low don't matter. Still get extreme film grain\noise in the image. Tried updating DLSS .DLLs in game folder as well. No luck.

Where is this location where you shot the pictures?

Not sure of that, one was just a random load going back to the game. But some more from Japantown below. With\Without Ray Reconstruction. Also started a new game Street Cred, and took an immediate SS with Reconstruction On. I'll keep poking around, but definitely hard to do other comparisons when nothing else is leveraging this yet. May have to wait for Alan Wake 2 or try Portal RTX, not sure of it's update.
