Ray Tracing grainy/blurry
Hiya,

I tried out Path Tracing for s and giggles however.. everything got extremely grainy/blurry. Even switching back to regular raytracing keeps it blurry/grainy. Dlss is on quality. RTX 4070 + 5800x3d. It performs better framerate/frametime wise but something.. is wrong.

Anyone encountered the same thing?

Try increasing DLSS sharpness and see if it makes the image better for you. I have mine at 0.35 but some prefer 0.50.

Thanks for the tip but i already tried that. Even at 1 it still looks grainy beyond belief. And I mean the whole picture/screen is grainy too.

You should go for pathtracing and DLSS sharpness 0.50.

Did you dislike motion blur and film grain?
If yet, it might have to do with DLSS not being set to quality or off.

A last thing could be FG.
While FG is awesome, it still has a few issues and some people see if the pixels mismatch, when FG generates them inbetween.

i have the same grainy picture on 4070Ti maybe because we are not on the newest driver which is: 537.42 i don't know but i think so thats why its totally grainy now inside CP

The problem started after turning PT on. Turning it back to normal RT doesnt help. FG off doesnt help, DLSS to Quality (or any setting) doesnt help. Sharpness doesnt really help; Blur and film grain are off because blegh.

If that is the case, then restart your game and don´t use PR
But unless you play 30 fps, you don´t need motion blur and Film Grain. Depth of Field is a matter of taste and chromatic aberration should be off as well.

Remember if you use DLSS, do it on quality settings!

I’ve got the same exact issue, it seems like there is a film grain and nothing is sharp anymore like it used to be, I tried everything so far with no luck. Did you find any solution?

If you messed with your settings before installing the latest driver from today, then you will need to delete the settings.json file for it to work correctly. There are a few threads in here explaining it.

I did initially, but for some reason quitting the game and then restarting fixed it? Don't know what that was about.

I’ve done already a fresh install with all previous savings removed. Basically I have downloaded and started the game as new. And before installing the game the latest drivers were already updated

Even if you did a fresh install, the file will still need to be deleted. Its in the AppData folder, and that folder will still be there even after a new install uninstall.

Sorry for my ignorance, where do I find this AppData folder? I’mon it now and I can’t find it
Just open the Run box (windows key + R) then type %APPDATA% and press enter
This will open your appdata folder
Now type "UserSettings.json" on the search box to find the file and delete it.

Thank you! I updated my graphic drivers and that solved my issue.
Turn off Ray tracing reconstruction if you have it on. It makes the game a grainy mess.

I’ve done as you wrote, but In my appdata folder I can’t find UserSettings.Json
Am I a complete amateur that I can’t find it in anyway?
Probably because after you press Enter, it takes you to the Appdata/Roaming folder. Simply navigate back to Appdata and perform the search directly there. If you prefer to go there manually, Appdata will have three folders: "Local," "LocalLow," and "Roaming." The file is located in Local > CD Projekt Red > Cyberpunk 2077.
