Why don't cars have rearview mirrors and side mirrors?
I love driving with the camera inside the car, but I hate crashing and running over pedestrians due to the lack of mirrors.

Do you know if that will change with the new patch?

This is not a game about racing cars. Do you ever want to play it. Takes a lot of time to implement such things. And its not even that important.

And how about proximity sensors?

On the center screen inside the car, it indicates with a red or green light if there is a car or pedestrian behind, the same in the side mirrors that are there as decoration.

More likely it’s the overheads needed to render real-time.
There’s no GPU made yet that can do it! Lol

Partially true, but real time reflections/mirrors do exist in other games like racing games. Although racing games don't have nearly as much going on the screen to render and process as a game like Cyberpunk does.
Keep in mind that mirrors in games don't work like actual mirrors. It's always a complete new box with every single object rendered an additional time, just mirrored. That can indeed become quite taxing when it's not just some rather empty race track but a whole city with dozens of civilians and cars etc. (also why they usually only spawn in the direction you're currently looking).

Making an "ACTUAL" mirror in a game is wizardry and almost never actually happens.

9 times out of 10, if it's a stationary mirror, it's a rendered room on the other side of a transparency that renders another model that mirrors inputs/actions of things on your side, or a camera view that looks out of the mirror and inverts what it sees (See games like Hitman).

Most mirrors in driving games are just a picture in picture camera, basically. You can't view them from different angles, so it's not as obvious, but if you were to somehow move around your viewing position (which you can't in driving games) you would notice the image doesn't actually change with viewing angle, or if it does it doesn't change "right" (ala GTA V) and it looks bizarre.

I'd be happy with GTA style mirrors, but with ray tracing it's not actually impossible at all to make a real working mirror. It would just be insanely taxing and incredibly sub-optimal with current hardware.

Probably linked to V's optics.

Actually CP2077 takes place in a parallel timeline where car mirrors were never invented. Apart from that the timeline is identical to ours

Check the hotkeys. There is a button that shows a rear perspective while held down and returns to back inside the car when you let go.

They even dont have flashlights, dont expect high-tech like car mirrors

Cars don't have rearview mirrors because they have a camera in back.
They have wing mirrors that have a camera inside too.
Some cars (like Johnny's 911) have only one wing mirror.
You supposed to link in with your car to drive it.

You know those parking space lines on the edge of the pavement/sidewalks? That sometimes have lettering and words, or adverts on? Those tell you sometimes to remember to enable 'driving assist mode' when you are driving.
So the in game world lore reason is that mirrors are now camera based digital things.

But Ashen One is correct.
Mirrors in the game you interact with are another mirrored room behind a gate shutter and a copy of the player. That's why the delay when you choose 'look', the game has to make sure 'you' behind the glass has the same set of visible stuff equipped.
The 'you' everyone sees in the intro movies with Jackie in his room, looking into the 'mirror' is a copy that's standing in a copy of Jackie's room, behind the real room.
'You' don't have a head even (lol) the mirror version of you does tho.
Saw a vid on YouTube where the maker showed this, flew into the other room showing the copy standing there at the mirror, another Jackie lying on the bed behind.
That's why there is an empty area behind the mirror in the H10, so you can have the mirrored room behind

Its why we have no reflection in the shiny glass of the stash room door.
And why V feels so short to folks. Your 'eyes' are in your neck XD height wise.

The default button for that on PC is 'Q'
You can alter how high or low your angle is when driving in 3rd person in the settings menus.
If you press Q once, it takes you a little out, press again and it takes you slightly further out.
The 3rd press of Q puts you back and inside the vehicle, or sticks your camera to 1st person if riding a bike.

No, there are cameras on cars, not mirrors. PL made that very clear from the mission you hack a car.

Default middle mouse access a rear view camera without toggling to 3rd person since 2.0. That's what the other poster was talking about.

Ah. Never used that so far.
Knowing my luck tho, I'd instead toss a grenade into the car behind me and instantly get MaxTac on my arse XD.
Think I'll stick with G just in case lmao, but thanks for the info

Don't some of the cars have side 'mirrors' that look like just cameras? In the DLC, when you hijack a car and end up in the boot, you hook-up directly to the optics of the vehicle and can see additional views. In some modern cars like my Mercedes, the cameras around the vehicle allow an overhead view when backing up, and it displays the area around you. So maybe tapping Q and having the overhead view of the vehicle, is essentially the answer to having visibility to your surroundings, not just the front, and it all goes right into your brain.

(There are some modern cars that have side cameras that display what a side mirror would, but to flat screens inside the vehicle... supposedly helps in aerodynamics, but seems an awfully complex solution to a problem).
Porkhammer Nov 28, 2023 @ 2:41am
I also think they're linked to the drivers' optics somehow. The mirrors are there but they look.. cyberware...y. ish. So it makes sense to me.

CDPR coudn't even make mirrors in bathrooms work normally. And you want in cars :pfff:
