Question about Iconic Shotgun Order

I got this from one of the very first vendors you run into during the DLC. Started using it during a fight, and noticed that it actually moves my character backwards with some serious kickback. Don't think I've ever had that happen with a shotgun before, but this is my first time playing since the new patch and DLC dropped. Is this a new mechanic for shotguns? Is there a way to stop it from happening? Or is it perhaps exclusive to this gun? It's funny: I actually got stuck in some geometry because of the kickback, and hand to point at the wall behind me to throw myself back onto the map.
