Building a new character
So, 2.0 is a totally new game in terms of skills, abilities, equipment, etc. But none of the abilities or equipment seem to do anything useful. I genuinely don't see the difference between walking around with no skills and the first gun and totally building a character. Am I wrong here? How do I get a handle on building a new character in this mess and should I even care about equipment? I have a save near the point of no return that I was planning on continuing into the DLC, but now the build I was using doesn't exist anymore and I have no idea what to do with all my skill points. Probably going to have to start over and redo everything (omfg is there is a mod that just cuts out all the braindancing please lmk), but that presents the same problem of the build I was using doesn't exist and I need a new one and none of this crap makes any sense anymore. Why did they do this?

Should I just chuck this game entirely at this point?

There's no need to complicate things, either continue and redo your perks, or start again.
Yes, perks, along with weapons, have an influence on your gameplay.

It's best to start a new game to get to grips with all the changes

Nah, it's an illusion. The problem with perks in Cyberpun, and perks in general in other games, is that we have too many generic/false choice perks. So developers removed most perks, cool right? Right.
But, BUT - they didn't really removed +1% generic false choice things. Where are they you might ask? In cyberware, and they are even worse, it works like this - almost every implant gives +0.1/0.2 damage/crit chance/whatever per stat point, so +1 or +2% for most of them.
Why? Why can't our stats/skills give us this? No one knows.
So, that's how you build now, my bro, go to doctor.

I was really excited for the new DLC, but 2.0 destroyed my playthrough. I don't think I have the patience for a third playthrough of this game now with everything being so much worse now. As a fan, I feel insulted.

Like they could have fixed melee combat, but no, what about putting guns on cars.

it does feel like its gone from rpg elements to gimmicks

I like that armour's gone from clothing to cyberware and cyberware was expanding on, clothing looks like it's been left to rot now though, but yeah guns on cars and car hacking that you aint gonna find much use for

What do you mean? The perk system is super simple to understand now and you can do multiple great builds combining when them with right cyberwear.
If you don't have the patience to get into that, you can try and play it as a regular fps.

Ah, it is several hours of cutscenes before you get to cyberware with a new game and in my almost finished playthrough my cyberware looked like the same complete mess as the rest of my equipment. I guess that's where all the building is hiding now. Thank you.
