Where does Phantom Liberty fit into the timeline?

Just as the title says really, Started a whole new playthrough and noticed it unlocks after the heist mission. So does it fit in here in the timeline or is there like a "Canon" or certain point where it makes the most sense

It unlocks after you do the Voodoo boys mission in Pacifica.

Likely the point at which you unlock it. So immediately following your final encounter with Placide.

It unlocks after the vudoo boys, you will have a new storyline that starts w/ someone who might be able to help you with the relic, and it goes from there. So imo it's a good idea to play it alongside the original story as just another questline. But it is flexible

If I have already beaten (er, finished) the game (just did last night)... and get this expansion (thinking about it), will I have to load a save from previous to the "point of no return" to play the expansion?

I'm with the OP, don't know where this expansion ties in with the original game.
Most games, expansions are separate play-throughs... this one appears to be integrated with the main story?

It provides additional ending(s), so you'll want to either start a new character, or reload right before Nocturne OP55N1.
