Didn't Johnny nuke Arasaka Tower in Night City?
Where is ground zero then? Or did Night City and Arasaka simply just rebuilt on THE NUKED CRATER?

there were 2 nukes. 1 to take down the tower and only the tower the other to cause widespread damage.

only the one to take down the tower detonated

It's at the northeast side of the main corpo plaza circle. They turned the collapsed building into a memorial/tourist site.

NC is quite large and the nuke was, comparatively, lower power. Only killed a couple hundred thousand, according to the books.

That number got reduced by quite a lot then, one of the newscasts in the game says it was 12,000

The 12000 can be the total casualty of the entire Arasaka Siege, which is an all out siege organised by Militech, that is one of the major event in the 4th corpo war.

The siege were launched in multiple front through out the whole city, and the order of battle includes armies of infantry, armoured and mech units. Mercs from Atlantis were also hired to reinforce and/or lead the Militech military units.

Silverhand were serving as the front line commander of the main siege force that attacked the tower, and he use this chance to his advantage...:steiner:

Oh ok, I guess that makes more sense

The smallest nuke actually tested (deliberately, the smallest nuclear explosion was equivalent to about 2 tonnes. of TNT.) was the W54 (Davy Crockett) warhead with a yield of 10-20 Tonnes, no mega or kilo.

It's the basis for the Fat Man in Fallout.

Scott Manley on youtube has done a good video about small nukes.

ok so I just ran through the game again and I was right -- not only was the number of deaths from the nuke reduced to 12,000 INCLUDING civilians, the Arasaka vs Militech death toll was only 4000, according to Hanako Arasaka herself during the cutscene where Takemura confronts her on the float.

In fact the commander was Morgan Blackhand, Johnny was just the leader of a small team in charge of planting the bomb, the game implies that Johnny does this to save Alt but his memories are so screwed up that it is not clear. Johnny himself is convinced that it is the legend that everyone says but in reality he was just a scapegoat.

CP2077 made it seem like the whole city but in-lore only Corpo Plaza was nuked/destroyed, or at least the only portion yet to be rebuilt by the 2040s was Corpo Plaza.

If you want a visual there is an interactive map for the Cyberpunk Red TTRPG, I'll be linking it below.

The reconstruction process took a lot of time and lives, the sky was dyed red for several decades and it makes no sense to compare it with anything since it does not obey any type of logic. We're talking about a story in which people amputate limbs in garages to put on super-functional metal prostheses in a few hours without feeling practically pain.

Keep in mind, it's been at least 50 years.
