Do I need Cool/Int to do a stealth Netrunner?
I only play on Hard, and I don't care about the most challenging experience, just the immersive feeling of "being sneaky". I like to do most missions without being seen.

Can I do this with Netrunning alone, or would I mostly use Ping and then kill people with a silenced rifle while staying out of sight? Every Netrunning build I see is using Overclock instead of trying to be sneaky.

Also, the number of headshot perks in Cool suggests that trying to headshot without it sucks.

You can do it with Netrunning without an issue and without ever triggering tracing.
  • Tier 1 - Distract or Bait.
  • Tier 2 - Distract/Bait + Sonic Shock (this allows you to sprint towards an enemy to grab them while they're turned around, since they're deafened by Sonic Shock)
  • Tier 3 - Sonic Shock + Mind Wipe = Enemy both deaf and blind. Sonic Shock also wipes them from the network so tracing can no longer be triggered.
With these the enemy won't even know you exist, an actual Ghostrunner in the system.

Nahh, you can do it with just netrunning imo, so long as you empathize reducing your trace and like that perk that reduces RAM use by proximity and stuff like that. You maybe want Cool 4 just to get some of the entry level Cool stuff.

Netrunning isn't necessarily for stealth. It's just a ranged archetype.

If you want stealth, cool is the way to go as it provides perks specifically designed for stealth gameplay. With cool, you can complete most gigs without needing to takedown a single enemy.

Funny enough, the best netrunner is Body/Int thanks to overclock. You need the bonus health and regens from the body skills and there's a cyberware that gives 10% health regen bonus per body point for 200% max.

Body + Int + overclock is great with synapse burn, but an Int + Cool + Tech + overclock build that can spread cyberpsychosis/system shutdown/suicide to every enemy nearby is not only equally viable, but incredibly fun to watch.

What does cool and tech bring to netrunners? Tech has cyberware bonus sure but cool only has stealth stuff which doesn't really bring much to hacking.

Body/INT lets you use any hacks with overclock with the bare minimum of cyberware.

Thanks everyone. I think I will try to do as much as I can with just netrunning, except 4 Cool to be able to sneak faster.

Body//Adrenaline adds more RAM when overclocking, sure, but you don't need a bottomless pit of ram to handle most encounters. Generally, overclocking with 1-2 blood pumps is enough for me to handle an entire compound, and even then you have second heart to bring you to 100% if you drop to 0.

I'd rather have other perks that actually provide more utility if I wish to remain undetected with my netrunner, which is generally how I play netrunners.

Tech brings maximum cyberware load for iconic cyberware, Edgerunner procs (which I used with my smart SMG), and well, every other slot filled to maximize ram recovery + quickhack damage.

But cool just ensures that you're undetected with the middle tree. Gag order is also great. I ignore everything else from cool, however.

Half of the main game's dedicated stealth paths are behind Body checks and the other half are behind Tech checks. If you don't take tech and body, you end up having to basically use netrunning to disable every enemy in every hallway and waiting for RAM to come back can be tedious.

yeah l use a lot of stealth and even made it through a bunch of missions without ever getting noticed but then i started thinking about it and how much xp i was missing out by not killing people. so i usually end up murdering everybody even if it's after the mission is over because some of those fixer jobs they want done discreet. so after i get the reward i go back in and "finish the job". :mrb_ivan:

as a netrunner i can kill everyone without even triggering combat. (sonic shock + anything that kills)
true min-maxing of stealth jobs :theskull:
(if everyone is dead, noone can catch you :D )
