That video is quite clever, but also seems more like an exploit. Braindead, indeed.
My last playthrough, about a year ago, I was melee and heavy weapons with some stealth to get in close to start out with a bash or slice. I got through the game on very hard without this much difficulty, so I'm kind of trapped into playing the same way again.
I just loaded the my save where Oda destroys me and at level 38 and 50 street cred, I have 20 int, 11 body, 7 reflexes, 6 tech, 15 cool. I blame the Dalmain merge for my early heavy int decision, but I wanted to get more into netrunning this time anyway. Maybe I'm just too spread out with that build.
My current save where I took down Oda fairly easily with a shotgun and incendiary grenades, is a pure 20 to body only build. I have 20 body, 3 reflex, 3 tech, 3 int, and 3 cool at level 38 with 50 street cred. I have 27 unspent attribute points. You literally need only body to take out Oda. I'm half tempted to see how far I can get in the game now with using only 20 in body and watching the unspent attributes climb..
I managed to score 7 hits directly in his face with a 300 dmg sniper and that brought his health down to 99% from 100%, then it jumped back to 100% so I guess he heals automatically?
And of course he oneshots me because I don't have a tank build.
It has to be bugged, I ended up lowering the difficulty from high to normal and saw no change, then once more to easy and the fight was over in 2 minutes with my shots doing ~10% damage and I was able to tank most of the previously instakill homing bullets.
My control quickhacks still had absolutely no effect on him, but because it was on easy I could just run around and pop regen to counter it.
Are you okay? You just listed the reason's to play the content, not to mention it's content in a game you paid for. Why not opt into it? Many of these things have unique weapons, clothing, and vehicles are locked behind them. As you level up you get access to cyberware and perks that change the way you play. What's the issue? That you can actually have fun in Watson at level 30? That you can wander anywhere you like at any level and expect a fair challenge? That the guns and clothes feel more like products and less like a packet of numbers to be discarded? Were you only playing the side content because the bosses were filtering you in the main story? That's a pretty weird motive to play a side quest considering you could toggle the difficulty down and go on with your life.
It is in fact as I suspected a bug. I suggest you manualy save the game before entering the boss arena and not reload the latest automatic save when you die. As i experienced and many other players, the smart bullet phase won't oneshot you (even through cover) anymore
What an incredibly sinister boss fight mechanic. Every death makes the fight harder. Bahahaha. I say we keep it in now knowing how it works.
But Smasher kicked the ♥♥♥♥ out of me when I tried to do the same with him.
I won thanks to the hack I installed in the monowire. Poor guy was a walk in the park at level cap.
Very hard is very hard, but Oda isn’t really an obstacle imo…
Adam Smasher on the other hand has become a monster… finally.
Really the only thing for me about Oda's fight was that it took longer, because he's a bit more of a threat now than he was prior to 2.0, so i did had to run away from him, and hide. I got a little bit confused with this fight initially because he can cloak up and regen his health, which i didn't even knew he could do that - not sure if this was added in 2.0 or it has always been this way, goes to show to just how easy he was prior to 2.0 that i genuinely don't know if he was capable of this back then, because prior to 2.0 i was able to kill him so quickly.
But anyway, once i realized that i couldn't just hide from him i needed to hunt him down, that is exactly what i did. I did as a maxed out netrunner, - Oda was basically half health within the first few seconds of the fight starting thanks to all the quickhacks i used, but after that it was a bit of a game of cat and mouse as i had to run away from him, and thanks to the cyberware that gives me double jump it was very easy to run away from. And he would also run a away from me when he started to take too much damage, and i had to go look for him and stop his regen.
Anyway i was a little bit worried going into this fight thanks to some of the comments i've seen people make about the new Oda, and after going through i have to say I was somehow disappointed. He's definitely harder than he used to be, but nothing special.
depending on the timing of when you do the side missions it will generally help you by leveling your 'skills' things like headhunter, shinobi, enginneer, etc. this is good because they have a lot of level dependent perks that only come with high level (lvl 60 shinobi is a dmg increase and no stamina usg in sande for example).
other than that i've read how some people will grind all the watson missions and regina missions early to get levels, then around lvl 26-30 they do all the scanners to get as much chance for cyberware capacity shards as possible. some of them save scum the scanners for better rng on the shards. i have seen someone with base vanilla game have over 520 cyberware capacity from this method lol
there are also some weapons that you only get from defeating / looting a certain area. the agaou throwing axe for example spawns in a 'increased criminal activity' area in dogtown iirc
