I don’t understand Johnny Silverhand.
He hates corpo for destroying people’s lives, but then 90% of his body benefits from corpo’s tech. It goes the same with all those gangs, nomad, tribes, merchs, or pretty much every soul in NC. People pay for corpo to get benefits, comfort but then they hate it when they are one giving up power to those corpo. Well, at least 2nd amendment is still a thing in that game, which is unbelievably crazy for a dystopian society.

Silverhand definitely isn't a communist, you learn this when you find the fortune teller.
Clearly you didnt pay attention to his storyline at all; He hates the corpos, just because he is now a part of the relic program does not mean he chose to be part of it, you literally see him get trapped by soulkiller in the first act of the game.
Not just that but just because he has cybernetic implants does not mean he supports the corporations, everyone in the world has implants, wether its to replace a limb or something to enhance their abilities.
Maybe look up a storyline video on YT or lay off the hash when doing a playthrough if you dont wanna miss out on story bud

Based on the actual lore and not Johnny's distorted memories. His beef is with Arasaka, not really corpos as a whole. In reality he worked for Militech during the assault on Araska tower. But he conviently distorted that fact from his memory bc its doesnt fit the image he portrays for himself.

Thats a good point and one that Alt also brings up about Johnny, what we see is HIS interpretation of events which isnt necessarily how they happened. Same with his motivation for his actions and choices.

Well, he is realistic. That's the reason.
To be honest he doesn't understand himself. That's part of the entire journey. He's learning about himself through your own struggles.

But more specific to the corpo thing is that it's like drugs, there's no way you could survive in that society and have any real chance without tech. It's basically a necessary evil.

Think of it this way. If you need to eat yet it was only the corporations that have food are you going to starve? Are you equally just going to bow down to whatever laws they decide to enact or whatever power plays they choose to make that affects your life simply because it sucks they happen to be the only ones with the food you need?

This situation mirrors society today. We look at corporations as the places that pay us but at the same time not every corporation is a good one... clearly yet some people will still defend them all because they fear their jobs will disappear.

Weird question to ask when late stage capitalism is strangling the last drops of life out of the workers and the planet while saying "where did my shareholder value go?"

And you've signed up for it just by being born any time after say... 1975.

Here's a thought experiment: Is Cyberpunk 2077's corporate feudalism a grim warning of a far off future we'll face if we don't get our ♥♥♥♥ together or 'just something that we'll have to deal with in like 10 or 20 years time, tops'.

I mean, yeah. Take a look out of your window and start realizing.

This sentence demonstrates a tendency to view nuanced topics that aren't as simple as one and zero as completely black and white binary issues. They aren't.

Just because you may dislike, or hate, an institution, doesn't mean your life wouldn't be worse off by making a decision that avoids that institution. In the USA, people have very low trust in media. It's still better to get your information from somewhere than stick your head in the sand. People dislike banks and corporations. Will you forgo a bank account? Are you going to live life entirely without a cell phone and washing machine? Maybe you hate Arasaka, but if you don't get that cognition implant that helps in your engineering work, maybe you'll get passed over for promotion and be unable to finally get your family out of the gang infested corner you can already barely afford right now?

People tend to make decisions they believe will benefit them the most. Even if an action includes, directly or indirectly, supporting an institution they hate, most people will begrudgingly and reluctantly take that action because their personal cost-to-benefit ratio assessed that to be the better option for them.

It's like saying why he's buying food, drink or clothes since it comes from a corp and he hates them. There's not exactly much choice in the matter.

In that world tech is close to a necessity, especially for anyone that's likely going to end up in combat. It really isn't a stretch why people would want and buy things that allow them to survive, work, meet their goals etc but feel the people that provide them have a disproportionate amount of control and power which they use tyrannically so want to fight against that system.

The time to withhold money would've been BEFORE corporations outright control everything. That ship sailed for Johnny and V.

I'll point out that there's (1) a chain of custody issue, as Arasaka has had years to tweak their simulated Silverhand -- and they don't really have a lot of reason to make him seem reasonable and well-adjusted; and (2) that the initial engrams were taken at a time when Silverhand was being held prisoner by a hated enemy, so... probably being even less level-headed than during normal times.

That`s the thing, in CP either you chrome yourself or you don`t go further than serving noodles... It`s a matter of pure competition and survival. For sure he couldn`t fight any of those arasakas he likes to fight without any chrome xD.

Someone today could hate the big petrol, the banks, the politicians, but now... what is that someone gonna do? go live in a hut in the forest until the day the politician/bank/magnate says that plot is no longer his or has to obey under some new "very inconvenient legislation"? We already know how those stories end xD

It's the same angry twitter posters screeching about capitalism, from their iPhone, in the future.
Psygo Oct 1, 2023 @ 8:34pm
Well the whole point is that it's a Libertarian utopia. Which is why it's a dystopia for everyone else.
Steppenrazor Oct 1, 2023 @ 8:36pm
he is an asphole. - a neolithic POS.. dude had/has issue..

i mean nuking a corp HQ? in middle of a city? as some kind of lame protest? something is wrong with him. (duh)
