I don't the extent of command console in this game but that might also be a possibility.
It's not about the gun, it's about the practice. If you let them do that with a gun, next it's going to be something else, and again, and again and before you know it you'll have entire mechanics locked being subscriptions.
It's was the same with the bethesda horse in oblivion. "It's just a skin", yet now we have DLCs left and right for everything and they hire psychologists to tell devs how to code the cash shop so that you're inclined to buy stuff in it... instead of hiring engineers to optimize the game (you know, the stuff games actually need these days).
The only way to prevent predatory tactics in marketing is to say no, to everything, everytime. Because what you let slide is what they'll exploit to milk people.
