How do gear upgrades work now?

I am level 10 but only have a single tier 2 item: a shotgun that I crafted myself. Do higher tier items drop as you level up? Are they gated behind storyline progress? Ripperdocs are also scaling me down to tier 1 whereas I used to be able to buy legendary parts from the beginning. I really want those cyber legs that give me extra jumping power!

they do drop as you lvl up, but i dont know how to upgrade low rank iconic weapons. You can buy cyber legs at ripdocs from the beginning of the game..

Different ripperdocs have different items, and they offer more items as you improve street cred.

Not sure about item drops but I've been getting t3 drops as loot and I'm in the mid 20s for both character level and street cred.

I think its tied to Level and or Street Cred, but since you level so fast (now) you get there quickly, theres so much loot now actually - its crazy. Break down the higher tier weapons and sell the lower ones, depending on what you need.

No, the Reinforced Tendons are Tier 2, and unlock at level 10.

Upgrading iconic weapons is done in the crafting screen. There is an "upgrades" tab.

It's only tied to player level. Street Cred has nothing to do with Ripperdoc inventory.

Noice. I will go revisit the doc again since I am 10 now. Thanks! The economy in this version is a whole lot tighter than before. It'll be good to have a use for money at last.

All non-Dogtown ripperdocs have the same inventory and it's scaled only to character level. They will, however, still upgrade your existing cyberware to a tier they won't sell if you have the components, though.

You still can't get everything from the start even if you cheated to have infinite components somehow, because not everything even has a tier 1 version to buy so you'd need to be level 10 to buy the starter tier 2 version or w/e, but you can still get a bit ahead of the level curve w/ cyberware if you're willing to hoard components for the upgrades.


Enemies level with you and so does the loot they drop. Kill a 'banger in the early game, he'll drop bottom-tier stuff. Kill his respawned version when you're level 25, he'll also have leveled and he's pretty likely to drop a tier 3 item, maybe tier 4, occasionally tier 5 (although why e.g. a money shard containing a mere 9000 eddies would be tier 5, who the hell knows; like, I've paid ~50,000 for a single tier 4 quickhack; 9000 is hardly legendary).

Good question. It seems to be cars, gigs, and side missions. Though I'm not positive about gigs.
