I am a person who likes playing majority of my games using controller....
But somehow, specific for this game, M&KB is the way to go....
100% agree. i also play most games with a gamepad, even games like diablo are better with a gamepad these days (diablo 2 resurrecred was miles better with a gamepad compared to mnk and diablo 4 is also better with a gamepad compared to mnk) but cyberpunk is one of those rare games that are garbage with a gamepad and MUCH better with mouse/keyboard, especially because the gamepad controls have one animation bug that was driving me crazy (if you sprint using a gamepad and then turn to a side fast and stop sprinting in the same moment you'll get a stutter or what looks like a stutter because the animations break for a second.. this isn't present on mouse/keyboard use.
granted i bet most people have so much stuttering ingame they wont even notice but for those few people that actually can play the game smooth without any stuttering its very noticable
As a controller noob, if I were to try actual combat with my controller though.. nope. I still haven't memorized what the Y and X and LB and LT and all those weird binds mean, but for casual driving it is so nice and easy to understand.
Through changing of some circumstances i now have to use a Controller for playing games.
So after 1500 hours in CP77 and last time used a Controller in the 2000's (im bad with aiming) i started a new playthrough.
Now i realised this game was made for Controller. Must be because the cross platform decision.
BUT. Its great. Really great. Yes, of course the aiming is much more worse than with M+K but thats only logical and natural. For that there are the aim assist options.
But the rest of the game is so.much.better. Alone the fact you cant turn around as fast as with MK, the low-res stream issues and NPC pop ins are basicallay gone. The game has enough time to render BEFORE you see it.
more nice things:
- driving is insanely fun
- hacking / scanning on a whole new level
- the Inventory, the whole UI makes sense now! (no really, its easy and good with Controller, the layout fits for Controller use, not for MK)
- fights are now more challenging and last longer
- all the weapon perks (recoil reduction e.g.) makes much more sense now, the Controller is the perfect base for those perks to feel differences and its more rewarding to level up
- moving speed freely adjustable at any time...sneak slowly around corner, move with friendly NPCs at the same speed, enter a room cool like a badass...
Thats just a few differences. Like i said, usually im 100 % MK user but this game with Controller let me start using Controller for this kind of games again. Its really worth a try.
CDPR made this game imo especially for Controllers. The movemnent, driving, fighting, the UI, everything is made for Controller and suddenly the whole game gets another pace!
I have tried but I don't really like it.
I use the keyboard and mouse and I have the controller sitting in my lap for when I drive haha. Honestly I love that I can do it on the fly like I could in GTA5.
Good lord do I hate trying to play FPS with a controller....ewww...
If you use directional double taps you lock yourself out of diagonal dodges and may even dodge involuntarily. Potentially fatal mistake when stealthing or near a high ledge.
Directional key + double tapping a dedicated dodge button is an improvement. Dodging involuntarily to incredibly less likely and diagonal dodges are possible, but modding for single taps offers the same benefits and is just that little bit more immediate.
