lmao, well at least I know not to do it for now.
So I can at least confirm it does work if you have the perk. Might test to see if it works without it.
Tried again after ignoring it and found what might be (my personal) issue.
I wasn't following the exact quest steps.
If I just skipped a step, I had problems. If I did exactly what it said, things went okay.
So, to specific.
When I turn up, talk to the store owner, grab the deamon and just jack the access point...
The quest updates, but I get issues with jacking into points after.
When I turn up, talk to the vendor, grab the deamon.
_equip_ the ping quickhack.
_use_ it on the camera.
Then jack into the access point and hack it.
I found it behaved.
Quest updates, access points work, I can still quickhack, breech ect.
For me at least, it seems that being lazy and skipping steps (because I was familiar with the quest, jumping from start state to end goal and missing a couple of steps) was what messed thing up.
When you think about it.....
T-Bug gives you this quest right at the start. V has only used their deck to open a locked door at this point (at least on your first playthru. She has to hack the window for you if you get pinned down by machine gun goon, even if you use your short circuit quickhack on the Scavs)
Dex drops you off right in front of that market area, the game kinda handholds you there to _learn_ how to use your cyberdeck lol.
Once we (players) have run some of the game and are familiar with hacking points, we probably skip steps
(its called 'metagaming' in tabletop games. Player knowledge used by your character that they wouldn't have in their gameworld, like us being familiar with quests but a new playthru V not knowing the outcomes before finishing them lol)
Maybe that's what's been breaking the quest all this time? (At least, for me, it seemed to be this)
And you still get parts at least, when you hack points. You can just buy the quickhacks if need be, think almost all of them can be bought eventually. Can craft them too, tho that means putting points into Int. You are going to do that tho anyway if you are going to use Netrunner skills for more than just turning off cameras, 'whistle' at gangoons to lure em over and remote opening some doors.
We can just buy the crafting points, make all the quickhacks we need, then respec our skill points and redistribute them back into useable skills after getting all the good deamons.
I've never encountered the 'bug' as I've always followed these steps.
Tried 4-5 times testing on that access point in the market across (apartment building maintenance room). Without completing the gift I am getting the eddies, completed the Gift - no eddies.
Never encountered it upon release, and I completed the game 3 times that time. IMO free ping app is not worth the risk.
What's supposed to happen is it getting bugged in earlier versions where you couldn't get quickhacks from access points. But the other problem is some access points are still actually bugged, like that one bar or nightclub in particular when you move stuff off the shelf to get to the access point nothing happens. There are several like this in the game where you don't get money or quickhack parts out of them, they're just bugged. The T-bug...lol I just realized what a great name for this game, anyway hers only made it so some weird thing happened in the script that made you get failed attempts in a row to get a quickhack permanently locked you out of randomly gaining quickhacks. I'm to this day not sure why I did that quest and didn't get bugged but assumed they fixed it.
True, it's ironically one of the most super useful though you may as well just pay for it or craft it. But the problem is so much is still sketch that it's hard to tell with this game. There are multiple access points throughout the game that are bugged. You'll do them and nothing happens and then go back to some other mission or area and access point hacks work normally again.
AAA quality.
