I was wrong.
I had recently said that I couldn't tell the difference between overdrive and RT Psyco but man was I wrong. I didn't know what I was looking for and now that I see it, my god it's beautiful.

Best looking game I've ever seen, gives us a glimpse of what future games will look like lighting wise. The way colors bounce off other surfaces is so natural.

I feel bad for non-4090 guys who can't enjoy this update how it's intended. But I understand it's more of a tech demo.

interesting. I think it doesn't look any different. In fact the lighting just looks smeared and blurry.

You right but between a graphic card so expensive and food in my table for my family i will go for the food for my family!!!

Definitely a game changer in terms of the future of in-game lighting, even in its early stages.

I absolutely loved how Pathtracing improves the visuals and blends everything realistically even further for more immersion, but not going to use it for regular gameplay since I'm happy with my Psycho RTX performance. Definitely going to be using it for Photo Mode though.

But once I eventually upgrade to whichever GPU comes out at the time for the sequel, I'll be playing CP2077 with Pathtracing on full blast :D

Looks and runs great on my 4070Ti as well

It's hard to explain what to look for, when you see it you see it and it ruines traditional lighting methods for every other game. It's unreal.

At first I was like I don't see much difference but once I noticed it man it feels like next gen now.

first game i've ever played where night time looks like night time. Only path tracing can do this. I'm not at huge fan of this game but I'm going to play it just to look at the graphics, lol

It's not the best looking game ive ever seen because the textures suck like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
But the lightning is specatular with overdrive. Much, much better than in videos. As soon as i started playing after i activated it, i immediately felt the difference.

No need to feel bad, at least in my case.

I've tried RT Overdrive on my 3060 and can say that far I'm more visually satisfied with what I have via reshade. Nothing against RT Overdrive of course, but it simply isn't my cup of tea.

I've literally found that in this game, if you max out RT, things begin to look not so natural. Sure, sun light and so on works better, but roads becoming a tad bit overly reflective and smoother, puddles showing details like you're looking into a mirror, and so on.

Indeed, but I have nothing against it, just want to reiterate that. I'm simply looking for something closer to photorealism.

Games are definitely getting closer though, so one day it'll happen .

Its a salestrick, get someone hooked on the graphics, make the users become living ads increase sales of new hardware. oldest trick in the book

That's called light diffusion, where the intensity of lighting is determined by the surface it's hitting. So many are so used to fake video game lighting that they now believe that's how light is supposed to look.

Honestly it's kind of funny how I never noticed how bad the textures looked before this PT patch. That being said, objects and NPC's STILL look better with poor textures and proper lighting than vice versa. This all makes me wonder where the future of not only lighting, but the artistic direction of textures affected by lighting will go in the future. As someone who has been gaming since the SNES days I have to say, it never gets old seeing graphical advances happen like this in real time (despite myself getting old).
