Did they ever fix how dead the world felt?
I'm one of those people who stopped playing shortly after the game's release.

I'm looking forward to the expansion, and what look to be improvements to the main experience, but the one thing that really irked me was how dead the world felt.

There were few pedestrians, cars, and the music, whilst appropriate to the setting, didn't help either. The world felt lifeless.

Was this something that they've improved already? I'm sure it'll feel more alive with the expansion.

Absence of cars and pedestrians is usually tied to installing the game on a HDD and/or crowd density settings. Otherwise the city will vary from quite full through to near deserted depending on time and place.

They did an update last year which added some additional random NPC reactions to violence in the streets - they can try to fight back now. And there's a few other little things which can happen.

For anyone thinking of returning to the game after years of not playing, I'd honestly recommend just checking back in after the next update (in a couple of months or so) for feelings/opinions then because it will be a big overhaul of a large number of systems (eg police, vehicle combat, improved NPC AI).

Non-combat music. I always found it to be too dull and quiet when combined with how the world felt.

is that update before the expansion comes out? just reinstalled the game myself and wondering if I should wait.

I double checked to see what else had been said. "No earlier than September 9th" is the message from CDPR. (So I should have been more specific with 'September', sorry.)

Maybe in the expansion or the next update. We'll see what they have planned.

they have added random faction battles and conflicts in 1.7 .. Id recommend using enemies of night city and gang wars mod they should have been in the base game

I'm assuming you still can't enter 98% of the buildings, or have meaningful interactions with a similar percentage of NPCs. Do life paths have a meaningful effect on the story now? I'd have been far more satisfied if the game had been 1/10th the size, but felt alive and reasonably realistic. I'd have paid double the asking price for that version of CP2077, the version we were sold.

There's never really a reason to go anywhere in Night City unless a quest has sent you there. The city will always feel dead just for that reason alone.

You need the life path mod for it to matters. there are a lot of hidden buildings quests if you explore, there are entire conversations that take place in some areas between people about their lives, the shards also have some of the more crazy stories if u like to read them and follow the hidden ones. Basically u have to explore on ur own. Its much more than what gta 5 has in terms of stories and action but not activities. collecting cars also has certain stories associated with it

I want to actually DO things. Not hear about all the cool things NPCs do that I can't. I was so bored with CP2077 that I literally spent my last 8-10 hours playing the game endlessly driving back and forth to all the stores putting together the cutest outfit I could, and seeing how many innocent bystanders I could murder in public without getting clipped by the god-like Teleport City police force.

Pro design tip for CDPR devs. If you want to encourage players to care about collectible cars, it might be a good idea to not allow players to steal every car in sight with total impunity. Just sayin'.

The NCPD ain't that OP anymore ever since patch 1.5. They didn't just get teleported at any nearby corners instantly anymore. They've given time for the players to flee the scene after committing crimes.
