Question about new minimum specs
So, I have a 1650 and I've been able to play Cyberpunk 2077 on low at a good stable 30fps at a fairly low resolution with FSR2 at "balanced". I'm kinda worried now about just flatout not being able to play the game because of the expansion, I guess my question is if I can run base game perfectly fine am I going to be out of luck trying to run Phantom Liberty and the game as a whole? I understand this is all recent information but I'm a little antsy on it as it sounds like the new minimum specs apply to base game as well and I'd absolutely hate to lose a game I love playing.

One issue will be vram I think. Your 1650 has 4gb I believe? 6gb is the new minimum. When they moved the min specs last time they weren't joking about the requirement and people with integrated graphics with not enough vram just found themselves constantly crashing.

I really hope they set up a beta branch on Steam with the final build playable for older hardware. Sadly, they didn't do that last time though. 3 months to release so might be worth anyone concerned contacting their customer support and asking for it to be done...

I don't think you will lose anything. At best the game might run slightly worse if they improve certain visual aspects throughout the entire game, but for the most part it should run the same as before... other than the expansion which may be more visually packed.

They're also letting go of older hardware such as HDDs.

From the article; https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1091500/view/3692435565227438021?l=english

It's important to highlight that it doesn't mean the game will stop working on the previous minimum requirements. However, following the next update to the base game we will discontinue active support for them and stop testing the game on those setups.

1650 does have 4gb, yeah. Typically before a bunch of the performance updates and FSR2 coming out, I was able to easily tweak INI and game settings to turn off many volumetric effects. if i really want ive found im able to push upwards of 60fps on medium by toning down a ton in the ini settings so possibly this could still work if they decide on doing some new fancy graphics settings, but looking at the trailer I didn't see anything new.

My PC met (and slightly exceeded) the recommended system specs of the game at it's release, and i've been playing it at better than high settings at 1440p, at a stable 60 fps.

According to the performance chart they just released, with the new requirements, i'll be lucky if that same PC will be able to run the game on low settings, at 1080p, locked to just 30 fps.

If your system is only pushing 30 fps now, then i don't anticipate it's going to run at all when the new requirements set in.

Tell you what though, the new system requirements will be added by the 1.7 patch. That patch will be released sometime just before the DLC is released, so hold on to your money, and try the patch first, see if it will run before you buy.

(Also, before you download the 1.7 patch, back up the game folder, so if the patch does completely break the game for you, you can roll back to the previous version with your backup folder)

from what im seeing on the news post from CDPR, they state "It’s important to highlight that it doesn’t mean the game will stop working on the previous minimum requirements. However, following the next update to the base game we will discontinue active support for them and stop testing the game on those setups." so from what i gather it could be that they simply think although the 970 can play the game just fine they think the 1060 is simply a better choice, at least for the base game. fingers crossed though

I hear you. Agree with Grobut too. Maybe min specs are a little on the generous side and it won't be an issue and you'll just be hit with worse performance. Just the vram made my eyebrows raise a little from the 'bug reports' as people with 2gb vram discovered a 4gb minimum wasn't happening.

No. What you just quoted is what they wrote about HDD support versus SSD's (IE that they nolonger officially support HDD's, they may still work, they may not, no garuentee's given because they are nolonger supported).

That does not translate to CPU or GPU support. They are very specific about those. You need atleast an I7-6700/Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, and atleast a GTX-1060-6GB/RX-580-8GB GPU to meet the minimum system requirements (and that's for 1080p @ 30fps, it's not even for 60fps).

i do not see where in the post it specifies that quote is solely for HDD support. if it was about HDDs it would specify, in the line about minimum specs, that HDDs will still work and not state "It’s important to highlight that it doesn’t mean the game will stop working on the previous minimum requirements." because anyone reading that can understand minimum requirements relate to CPU and GPU support, not solely HDDs.

6 gb is new min req

I made the pre-purchase on GOG as soon as the email announcing it arrived. But then I found out about the increased requirements and asked for a refund.

I have a GTX 150 ti, a mechanical hard drive, an i7 4770 and 16 GB of ram. And as incredible as it may seem, using NVIDIA scaling, I can play on medium with no problem, I can even put it on high settings and have more than 30 FPS.

But I'm very concerned that it now asks for 6GB of VRAM, I've had unpleasant experiences with games asking for more than 4GB, even using scaling. I understand that technology must advance, but it seems that CDProjek is not aware of the current economic situation, if the game was a new release, it would not say anything. But it doesn't seem right to me that a game that currently works on my PC stops working, or that I have to stay on an old version to continue playing.

You can read the announcement here:
https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/news/48271/update-to-pc-system-requirements

The line just above what you quoted is specifically about HDD support, and the line you quoted follows on from that. So it is specifically about HDD's.

More importantly, there is a performance chart in that link which you should have a look at, as it leaves no confusion about what is, and what is not supported anymore.

I also understand that there is an opt-out option (but u stuck to the current version or so)
It's not clear though imo...
