Will Phantom Liberty corrupt my saves when released?
I want to start a new game, but then I am worried that my mid game save will get corrupted, is this possible?

Highly unlikely that it would fully corrupt them, but the possibility of instability, bugs and glitches introduced by the upcoming extensive overhauls, reworks and additions being dumped onto existing saves does exist.

So far every major content update did this since a lot of existing code either gets removed or changed, so how willing one is to risk the chance of that happening is up to each person individually. I personally won't risk it and will just start fresh.

Mods corrupt them more than the game does.

Sasko has said that they're confident old saves will work (not breaking saves is kind of their rule 1 on patching). But, as said already, that doesn't mean you won't see additional jank etc. with an old save. And this only applies to vanilla - a save which uses mods and you're on your own until modders catch up.

Considering how much is being changed for 2.0, I'm going with a fresh playthrough myself. I think it's going to be worth the wait and start fresh anyway.

OP didn't ask about mods breaking, nor red engine. They asked if their saved games would be affected. Likely not as it took me about 15 months from release to finish my first playthrough and the game went from, what, 1.0 to 1.5 with no corruption.

You can start a new game whenever you like. Besides the added content in PL the only other thing that MIGHT affect your playthrough is the change to skills when 1.7 releases, or maybe PL, I don't remember the exact time that change will occur. Go, play some. Just keep in mind your play style could change when the skill revamp is released.
