She usually ends up with tattoos at some point as I play (mods obvs - love some of the sleeve tattoos done by modders) but I tend to keep her fairly close to default in looks just tinkered with to get closer to a neo-militarism look initially. Always promise myself I'll do a full netrunner build one day but every time I get my first katana I get derailed into a melee build.
They start that way, but I let them grow organically in their roles, depending on what gigs and side jobs require...they _learn_ on the job, so to speak.
As for looks..yes, sophisticated for Corpo, flashy style for Street Kids, rough and functional for Nomads. Same with their cars and weapons.
Right now I'm playing a Street Kid with a dark skin...I was going for racially indeterminate, but darned if he didn't turn out looking like a cool young Black guy. What's funny is that a lot of the flashy clothing items that look over-the-top and a little ridiculous on the light-skinned Vs look GREAT on this guy. Character creation is almost a game in itself in CP77...
Creating a back story and then playing to that back story is half the game for me. I tend to do "play it safe" with just mantis, mono wire or gorilla arms and cyberware. Assuming security would have stopped anyone with weapons.
