their initial plan was to have multiplayer as DLC (a standalone multiplayer mode) but it was postponed multiple times and eventually cancelled due to the less than adequate launch..
horrible launch changed a lot of their initial plans they announced pre-release.
Philipp Weber one of their senior quest designers said so in an interview at some point.
it was also supposed to have many free DLC packs and story expansions like TW3 but it was also axed for the same reason. focus was put on fixing the base game.
So, the only time multiplayer ever existed in some multi-year-old interviews about what they'd love to put in the game.
Also, You got 12 DLCs for entirely free.
Cyberpunk is no exception.
And much like games like Skyrim, Fallout new Vegas and so on....someone *is* (or *was* maybe, since I haven't heard anything about it in ages) working on it.
But so far, its still (as of the last time I saw any footage on YouTube) very VERY much a work in progress.
You couldn't have 2 'V's (appearance wise) on the same screen. The host saw their V, they saw the guest as Jackie.
You couldn't ride along in the same car.
You couldn't complete quests together.
You COULD run around killing gangoons, mooks, cops and civilian targets. But only the host would gain exp iirc.
So, yeah, there is/was someone working on it.
But I think the patching system kept pushing their progress back, so once the game is done (expansion and patches over with), much like games like Skyrim and Fallout, the mod makers might be able to do wonders once the patches are over and done with.
I guess sadly for now ill have to just wait on buying the game till then or just play alone.
But thank you!
it existed in the form of 'promised content' (it was a stand alone mode separate from the main game) for a long pre-release and continued to be a plan after release that got moved back again and again and eventually cancelled cos they were fixing bugs for like 2 years...
they had plans to bring online multiplayer to not just cp2077 but to their other games too like the Witcher ect.
in Jan 2020 they announced that it wouldn't be in for launch (dec) and it would likely take until after 2021 (meaning 2022 release) this is them saying its coming! "promised content"
in march 2021 after the terrible launch they announced that they will reconsider their plans for multiplayer
and in Dec 2022 it was announced that it will longer be coming for 2077 nor will it be apart of the expansion.
"The priority was that the main experience will run for the people in a really good state, and essentially, the switch of priorities meant that other R&D projects had to go away." (the multiplayer)
as for the dlc's yeh there were a few free ones they gave us. their plan to have multiple larger 'hearts of stone / blood and wine" type paid dlc's got canned and turned into just the 1 phantom liberty.
im not complaining. just realistically telling it how it is and that they did infarct tow the line for said multiplayer content for years.
i was a little disappointed with what was actually delivered vs what was sold in pre-release demos and trailers (they oversold what it was going to be by a lot no matter how you look at it)
but
i loved 2077 when it came out played it for 3 weeks strait and cleared the entire map of icons, bought all the cars (yes i sold duped paintings XD), filled my iconic wall. and had an all round great experience with it. imo it was still a fantastic game even at launch.
i was among the lucky people that had 0 major game breaking bugs back at launch... a few floating guys a few cars in the ground that explode and rocket into the air, some minor visual glitches, i fell through the world once in 130 hours, game never crashed once on me, but never had any progressions blockers ect ect)
looking forward to another full clear with a new play through when phantom liberty comes out.
As for mods, try looking up Cyberscript and seeing where they're at (don't hold breath on multiplayer) - they showcased early attempts to mod a multiplayer in but have gone quiet since (and their initial mod isn't up on Nexus any more).

REDengine itself has no multiplayer functionality. Your question was answered before it was even asked.
Well, at least that explains why the 'host' player sees their friend as Jackie (lol)
Forgot about that, tbh. Having that would probably have made the mod dependent on a 3rd person mod (as well as any script and framework mods) and, as far as I know, most mod makers try to keep dependencies to the minimum's
Seen gameplay with the 3rd person.
Its fine for walking around the city, but as soon as V jogs (the default speed) sprints or jumps, the arms get longer and look 'wrong'. Waving weapons or mantis blades looks even worse lol. Like V contracted 'spaghetti arms' or something.
(Wouldn't be so bad if actions like scanning, hacking, running, sneaking, pulling out a weapon or attacking, automatically returned the player to 1st person though)
i 100%'d it in patch 1.02-1.06 at launch (cleared every single side mission on the map, got all the cars, the iconics ect)
sure a little disappointed at some of the things that didn't make it in (and the police lol...) maybe but loved it none the less.
i was just correcting this false statement because its just factually untrue. as they clearly did say it was coming multiple times and kept updating its status of "delayed till XX" for years lol
they 180'd on a lot of what they announced leading up to launch due to priorities shifting to fix the game....
which is obviously understandable. it was even pulled from the playstation store because it was so bad on console. no point in adding in "more features and content" if the game doesn't even run properly lol
this guy knows
