make sure you read the "secure your soul medical report 11" that is on the laptop in the Arasaka control room and the shard "review bloody bout vii - what went wrong". you can Google these too. both are essential to understanding gameplay and game development.
As a player of the TTRPG, some of the lore might mean more to me than others, but they seem to have gone out of there way to avoid making it an exclusive club. There is even a shard that is marked Cyberpunk 2020 Rulebook!
Many of the independent stories are tragic in and of themselves. There are a few love stories, some very tragic tales, as well as some wonderful pop culture references. Mike Pondsmith, the OG creator of the TTRPG, even does the voice of the radio announcer on the Morrow Rock station, regaling us with tales of the world of Cyberpunk.
