Any Iconic Weapons that start out Legendary?
Ok so the upgrade system really irks me. I have ideas for various builds, some of which are built around the idea of certain iconic weapons, with their unique effects. BUT, as far as I know, none of them are introduced at Legendary rarity. Which basically makes it mandatory for you to invest a ton of attribute points into Tech, just to upgrade their rarity. Since the only items that you can upgrade rarity by simply upgrading their level....have no inherent traits to them at all.

Am I missing something? Is there some way to keep iconics on par with your enemies without being railroaded into investing in Tech? Does it really not matter that much, other than the number of mod slots? Like does a lvl 50 Dying Night, that is Rare Rarity, do the same baseline damage as a lvl 50 Dying Night that is Legendary?

I just...REALLY hate the idea that it's almost always required to put 18 points into Tech, regardless of what build I'm trying to do, seeing as it's the only way I know to make Iconics stay relevant.

Yes.... the earliest and easiest one to get is Shingen Mark V. Everything else is like Pride and Ba Xing Chong is very late game.

IMO legendary weapons and gear are not worth the point investment. There is a way bigger jump in stats from Rare to Epic than Epic to Legendary. I would just get 12 points into tech to make Epic gear unless you really need the extra mod slot.

I'm honestly not sure if I do need the mod slots? It's mostly just the idea of picking a specific iconic for a build, because you have an idea that would benefit from it's unique trait (like firing multiple rounds that increase burn chance, because you're doing some burn/fire dmg build), and just making sure that if I do that, I don't have to make it legendary. sure i could slap a few more mods to boost the % chance of something, but it's more about whether or not i would be losing several hundred points of dmg if it's only purple or blue you know?

On my 3rd playthru and for my first run thru the game I had almost no points in tech. Didn't bother with crafting. Some of the guns you find as the game progresses will be leveled up already. Especially mid to late game, often finding iconic or epic guns after taking out the bad guys.

Although by using the crafting skill you do have more control over what weapons you have and when you get them.

It's not so much the level that I'm worried about. You can improve that with no points in Tech, all the way up to 50. I get that part. It's the rarity part that is gated behind crafting, which I find annoying. And I know I can just buy regular, non-iconic weapons at legendary. But some of the iconics have really cool effects, unique to them. And it irks me that I have to either settle for a blue version of this weapon for the rest of the playthrough, or sacrifice 15 points to Tech to make it Legendary you know?

I've done crafting in every playthrough, I'd like to not bother, but dislike it meaning I have substandard iconics as a result.

If anything, non legendary iconics are a good thing. Bumping up item levels gets more expensive, and reforging into a higher tier resets the crafting clock.

Skippy works fine for 0 tech builds (do puppy-loving pacifist, so after 50 kills you can lock it into always-headshot mode - note that non-lethal kills don't count towards the 50, so shoot them an extra time to be sure)

Not being able to craft/max iconics (besides Shingen Mark 5, Malorian Arm 3516, and post-point of no return stuff) is one downside of no tech builds, but it generally doesn't hurt overall effectiveness that much.

Another big downside to no tech builds now is the inability to get good armor mods in 1.6+.
(You can get close enough if you are willing to save scum the hell out of random number of slots random mods legendary armor spawns... Only a few of the legendary hats are that kind of drop though. (most are max empty slot type))
