Keanu Reeves , Idris Elba vs. spending money on actual game design
Why are they always doing that ?
Wouldnt the money be better spend on:

- flashing out the abandoned casino
- implementing a gang war and reputation system
- implementing a wanted system for police chases
- adding more things to do and explore inside the city
- developing true racing AI and having real street races
- making some of the megatowers or rooftops accessible for the player

They are.
If they wouldnt be and CD Projekt RED had an infinite amount of money to spend than they could just open up additional studios all around the world, hire 5000 developer and implement everything. But their amount of money to spend is not infinite, so they have to prioritize. Large marketing campaigns and giving the money to hollywood stars vs. spending it on actual gamedevelopment.

Maybe making the city only half as big and using the freed up resources to build explorable inside areas for the megatowers would have been a good idea. Bigger is not always better.

They are… not.

Death Stranding’s main cast is pretty much comprised of exclusively celebrities: Norman Reedus, Guillermo Del Toro, Margaret Qualley, Mads Mikkelson, Léa Seydoux, et cetera and though the game wasn’t to my personal tastes, it’s still a brilliant work of art that clearly reflects the passion and fire Kojima has for game design.

So don’t give me this whole spiel about how paying professional actors to… act is somehow detrimental and counterproductive to game development when there literally exists a video game with almost exclusively celebrity casts and still turned out to be great.

And even though he has absolutely no range as an actor, he's definitely earned his place in the cyberpunk genre

How so ?
Just because he played Neo in the matrix trilogy ?

Not even sure if I would call the matrix trilogy "cyberpunk" .
For me cyberpunk has to do with advanced megacities where people still trade commercial goods. Zion is for sure a megacity, but it is post economical/ war economy like without any shops or trading. Everything seems to be directly distributed by the city council.

There are no megacorporations anymore in Zion, which fight against each other.

The Matrix and Johnny Mnemonic.

Hmm, I think for me it's more about the juxtaposition of technological advancement and societal decay in a dystopian setting. The "punk" comes in when you're the protag is supposed to challenge the establishment and subvert the authority

because wakako is a fixer first, tyger claws second. pretty sure she has gigs where it requires you to attack tyger claws so.

Okay then.

Let's do some basic maths because you're incapable. Keanu Reeves reportedly made $12-14 million on Matrix 4. Let's be extremely charitable and pretend he was paid more than double that for CP2077. Even at $30m if you were to not hire Keanu and spend that money on hiring developers at their entry level salary of $80k meaning the cheapest fresh developers possible with no exp, you'd still only end up hiring 375 bottom tier devs LMAO. Little bit shy of 5000 I'm afraid.

You probably didn't even realise Rockstar only had 1000 devs on GTA 5 which is a far bigger game than CP2077. You really think just hiring more devs is the answer but you don't even understand how basic business works. What do you think is gonna generate more sales for the game/DLC? Adding street races, a wanted system and a bunch of other miscellaneous features or being able to use Keanu Reeves/Idris Elba as marketing? God you are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ naive.

is that not diminishing the game itself. i would argue it is a pretty good game in of itself. something else to consider is rpg first; it is like gta and fallout not to mention deus ex with rpg as its focus with heavy story progression without skimping on exploration and discovery.

Keanu Reeves plays Johnny perfectly, and Idris Elba is a superb actor, so I take no issue withi this at all. I think the state of the game at launch and the fact that so much clearly planned content was eventually left out are evidence of poor project management & feature creep during development, together with a very poorly chosen release date rather than being poor resourcing choices.
they didnt choose the release date the "players" whined enough that the media started going on about it then the publishers forced them to release early even though the devs told everyone it wasn't ready yet
Another big world of nothing. Industry standards and all. Add pretty much zero competition, why would they bother with anything beyond marketing gimmicks and basic trending themes? At this point we're playing Artificial Intelligence driven crap put together by "industrialized" schooling systems.

OP, just want to go on record and say you're killing it in this thread. Here's an award my man.

Glad that you like it.

You do not get an actor like Keanu Reeves for a video game just on the basis of a big salary. He would not have agreed to do CP2077 if he didn't believe in it on an artistic level.

Nic Cage however you could get with a bucket of cash. If you promised two buckets who knows what you could get him to do.

Thats exactly why Nic will be in the Witcher 4. Rumors claim that he will re-act his famous "not the bees" scene out of The Wicker Man. That was Adams idea. Keanu will also be in Witcher 4, playing a king's jester.

They are also in talks with Tom Cruise for riding a dragon while wearing his aviator sunglasses with Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone playing in the background.

What else to tell....

Peter Dinklage will be the end boss, but they will make him gigantic, like a giant. And have him chase you around through the whole map. That was Pawels idea ;)

You should check out Crime Boss: Rockay City. Seems like every character is a big name. Hell it's even got Chuck Norris.

Ahh, some people will never be happy lol.
I think they add value to the story. More actors should get involved in games, I think the stories would improve dramatically. They bring professional level storytelling to the games, improved situations, quests, dialogs, etc.
I think it's funny how the original poster kept saying "if money isn't an issue, just open up more studies and hire more people"; like that can be done with the snap of a finger or something - no matter how much money you have.

And some people will always be happy, no matter how bad the quality of the gameplay.
The perfect consumer ;)
