Maximizing Damage Question
Should I start with common weapon and then upgrade it all the way to legendary because of crafting damage bonuses or just buy the legendary variant?

I couldnt test it because I 24/7 have no money on me.

Only bother with buying weapons if it is a specific variant you can't ever find. like the actually decent light machinegun with slower rate of fire and higher damage per bullet. Which is such a difference in efficiency that it makes my """better numbers""" crafted defender LMG look even more like a joke.

Still praying for the day I see an legendary Masamune. Still can't even craft one of any rarity.

Anything you see dropped with any frequency is not worth upgrading until you are pretty sure that will be the end of it.

Otherwise? "I'm at level cap, I have over a million dollars at all times. Why am I not buying weapons for giggles?"

"...my god tier maximum level upgraded legendary and iconic legendary weapons are 2,000 on average, just under 4,000 at best for the 'everyone on the internet says it is OP' stuff like the yinglong smart SMG"

Eyeing my inventory gives the impression there is some kind of artificial cap on sales value unless you waste points on "selling things is worth more". $3,999 for my Iconic maxed out smart pistol. $3,999 for my iconic maxed out smart SMG. Coincidence or not?

Even maxing out the Byakko katana the internet loves is only worth 2,203 for me. which makes me laugh considering endgame trash fodder when no dropping mysteriously minimum value whites have guns worth 500 - 2,000+ just because of level scaling. While taking out a cyber psycho with a combination railgun/beam laser is worth under 4k.

Settle for whatever weapon of the category you need has the biggest DPS unless you are specifically looking for better headshots.

For example. On my rambo hacker 20 body/6 reflex run. I am an absolute master of shotgun damage, and have what little handgun perks you can get at 6 reflex, 5 cool.

I have a maxed out legendary shotgun (not the iconic, just one with a godroll RNG of -80% spread if you keep shooting). And a maxed out epic overture.

My shotgun has 1,460 DPS. it has a 100% headshot bonus, 125% when wielded thanks to cybernetics.

My epic maxed out overture with a silencer on it has 651 DPS, 766 without the silencer. it lists 200% headshot bonus, 225% when wielded.

Guess which one kills random gang members when I shoot them in the head, and which one tends to need multiple shots to kill random gang members making me say "Well, at least it makes them fall down so it is easier to finish them off."

At the same time, my revolver, or even Johnny's iconic handgun (A flat 700.0 DPS for me right now), is much less impressive just shooting people in the body. Because I'm not built to boost it to the over 1,000 DPS range.

I find it easier to get money and buy Legendary weapons than trying to upgrade them to a very high level. If you go high enough in the Tech Attribute you can simply craft them of course, but that costs you Attribute points you might want to spend elsewhere. I've currently stopped at Tech 12 [able to craft Epic], and upgrading those weapons with Mods and Perks may give you all the power you really need. This game teaches you a lot about the concept of 'opportunity cost'...

The main benefit of crafting over buying is if you want legendary Iconic weapons. Pretty much need to craft those, otherwise by the time you are max level the bonus for a crafted weapon really doesn't make that much of a difference. It also takes a perk point spent in a specific perk or they are largely the same, within a certain range due to RNG.

If you just buy the components needed the gunsa are generally less than 1k and never more than 2k even late game.

Cheapest way it so kill the Bosses in NCPD hustles and then use the blueprints they drop. You can make the gun and then once you have level up sell the one you have and make a new one with better stats.

I just did money hax by crafting legendary weapon and selling it until I got 150k eddies and increases my crafting level.

if you're still searching for that Masamune, the gun shop in Vista Del Ray sells legendary one, and i found the crafting spec at the downtown gun shop that is up the elevator, not sure if they are street cred level locked tho, as i got them on my 50 cred character, so maybe why you haven't found yet.

Cruising around everywhere with a max cred character was a no go for so much in the past. so the whole "Player's fault for not deserving it" was certainly not the issue.

As I was checking it out on a whim tonight anyways, I had the good/bad news about this.

I stumbled across it a bit ago naturally.

Then the elevator glitched out so it would not let me back downstairs even with reloading.

Thank god the distance jumping back down wasn't fatal. CYBERPUNK. Not even being a level cap millionaire will save you from jank. (I also have a lot of thankfully zero weight lower rank versions of iconic weapons I upgraded to legendary stuck in my inventory... I don't think this was an issue before the last big patch...)
