What is a good build for a first playthrough?
I looked up online for some OP builds, but those builds seem weak in the beginning and not viable for someone who doesn't the game. For example, leveling up intelligence and quick hack in the beginning don't seem to help. I can get through ACT I and then in many encounters, when I run into a crowd, I go down very quickly after a few hits for hard difficulty. Also, I am not sure if I need to do crafting in the first play through. It seems that once you go down that path, it takes a lot of perk points and deprives your chance to experience other parts of a build. In FO4, stealth is really easy, but it seems quite difficult in this game to stay hidden. There does not appear to be any perk that greatly boost your ability to stay hidden. Lastly, my question is, do you focus on one type of weapon or you need multiple types for different situations? I prefer to use a handgun and silencer as my go to weapon and go stealth with some hacking, but I am not sure if I need other weapons in case a handgun doesn't work well against some types of enemes. Thanks in advance.

all i can say is that the more you level up, the easier it'll naturally get and also create a build that will be fun for you. for example, i hate anything quickhack related so i opt for the sandevistan cyberware and build a guns blazing kind of character because i find that fun.

oh right and also, you're pretty much OP by the mid to endgame so there's that.

best way to play this game is stelth and with silenced pistols :) gives you at least some challenge :)

Best build is the one you enjoy most. The game is easy enough to make all build viable.

I love being a completely stealthy ghost, so I went for INT/TECH/COOL.

Hacking and sneaking go hand in hand. And there's also a cyberware that turns you invisible for 15 seconds. So it's actually pretty easy to be stealthy.

You need 18 tech, 18 body to have a 2 sec cooldown build. And that ignoring getting damage with reflexes Hardly a midgame build.

To the OP

I would advise against focusing on many weapons bc thats always a bad strategy in an RPG. Its better to be a master something than a jack all trades great at nothing. So a Handgun build/ stealth build get silencer, and weapon Sight of your choice for the out of combat bonus, go into reflexes until Level 14 where you can get Wild West which elinimates damage drop off. That will turn the handgun into a sniper. Then spec into cool whuch increases stealth damage and reduces detection. You can ignore body bc youll be in stealth.

Then youll become a headshot machine, get a Karenzikov to slow if detected for a couple of secs of slow mo headshots. Replace your gun as you go, youll throw tons of materials trying to upgrade. Start adding crit mid game

Endgame should be

20 Reflex, 20 Cool, 20-18 Tech, 8-10 Body, 3 Int. Only need 1 point for Mass Vulnerability.

Once you get 20 Cold Blood progression respec and put all points into Merciless until it allows you to get 100% crit chance at any stacks of Cold Blood.

Endgame pistol is Death and Taxes. Shoots 2 bullets which equals 2 stealth, 2 Headshot, and 2 crit bonuses.

Have fun

In general, I will add to all Attributes in Act 1 to get myself at least competent in most areas, then specialize more later in the game. I like to go into The Heist with at least Body 10 so I can use heavy shotguns and LMGs, and 7-8 in Intelligence to hit harder with Quickhacks. The Heist is a major exploit and it's frustrating to be weak in any area. Leveling up to 12 Street Cred will get you access to better cyberdecks too, if you plan to do any Quickhacking during the Heist.

This time around I'm playing a Corpo, heavy on Reflexes and Cool, moderate in Intelligence [sounds bad] and Tech, light on Body. Consider carefully the skills under each Attribute. In most of them you don't have to go past 15 or 16 Attribute points to get the most bang for your Perks, unless you want some specific high-level skill.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am going with a general build and gonna use a handgun with silencer. I am going to spread out all stats evenly in the beginning and later on see what to specialize depending on what items I find. I have read that a general build is not as powerful as maxing out 3 stats, but for hard difficulty i should still be able to finish the game.

I've done the same build on all 3 of my playthroughs. That's maxing body, reflexes and technical. Then a few leftover points into cool. I enjoy the shooting and I can still mess around with netrunning even with 3 INT, still equip a legendary cyberdeck and have enough RAM to execute anything, you just won't be able to run through the entire encounter with quickhacks alone. Which is fine for my playstyle. I just need to be able to disable an enemies cyberware from time to time and start most fights with detonate grenade quickhack and all is well lol.

Also enjoy using the suicide quickhack sometimes, makes me feel soooo damn evil lol. Especially when used against the random packs of gang members throughout the open world. Pack of buddies just chilling on the street then all of a sudden two of their friends pull their pistol out and blow their brains out. Then I just start blasting haha good times.

I can image executing an entire mob with quickhack alone being fun in the beginning and then gets old fast. With that being said, you really think 3 INT will be enough? There are quite a few really cool perks at level 5 and level 7

After reading all the perk descriptions, it appears to me that there are very many good perks that require low levels for each attribute. So for a beginner, i would think it makes sense to level all 5 attributes to level 7 and get all the good bang for the buck perks before deciding what to specialize. It appears that there are quite a few variables in this game such as the loot and schematics being different for each play through which may affect which way a person may want to go.

best build in my opinion is 3 reflex, 20 body, 18 tech, 18 intel, and 12 cool

You will be surprised how strong AR's / Pistol / and Blade still are with reflex only at 3

There are quite a few people who said that. Their reasoning is, weapon damage comes from the weapons and the perks don't add that much, and the best weapons come from crafting.

But from what I heard, perks are still necessary for those who want to 1 shot everything.

I would lower Tech to 12.... there is barely a damage or armor diffrence from Epic to Legendary. The only weapon in the game that "has to be" legendary is Problem Solver. Everything else can be Epic.

Also Reflexes gives you the vast majority of your Crit chance after they nerfed it (up to 15%) The only tree that foesnt benefit from alot of reflex is Assault. Handguns and Especially blades gets a ton of damage from thier trees.

Just don't spend your points everywhere. Focus on one thing (e.g. Handguns).
The game will get very easy very fast.

If you're not satisfied, just respec.
