How to make the boxing training robot work?
After several playthroughs, the robot in the workout area of V's building has just been inactive window dressing...so I thought. But then I see a YouTuber actually boxing against it. What?

Is this a console-only feature, or is there a way to do it on PC too? If so, how the heck do I do it? I've played around with it a bit, but I never get any indication of how to 'make it go'.

When you talk to the guy stood next to it you get a chance to box against it, not sure if you still can when he is sat nearby it.

It's right at the beginning of act 1.

You can't, once i walked away to pick up a shard when guy started talking and i couldn't do the boxing. Boxing side quest started just fine though.

Huh...I never remember seeing that. Oh well, next new game I'll know what to look for. Funny they made it so picky about getting to. Like the training video Jackie gives you, I guess...I wouldn't have minded reviewing that a couple of times during the game.
The first (first build) encounter the dialogue worked and fought the robot until it was deactive.
The next new charcter (2nd build) and many more. The robot becomes deactive when you just walk past the ring without dialogue.
This has not changed in three last patches by the developer.
I repeated this on purpose due, to curiosity.
Makes you think if there is any other quests that could be programed like this in the game.
Hopefully it can resolved by the company in the future.

I did take the opportunity to spar with the robot in later games. You _still_ only get to do it once however. I'm not heavily into 'gaming' as such, and I have very little experience with boxing games. I repeat that it would be _super_ nice to be able to spar repeatedly with the robot for practice and experience...even if it doesn't give you 'EXP'. TBH it's annoying to see the darned thing just standing there for the rest of the game....

Is weird because I don't remember being able to box with the robot. But clearly other people are doing it?

That initial boxing fight is scripted anyway so no you cannot box the robot.

What do you mean it's scripted? I've literally fought that robot every new playthrough. It's not scripted at all. As far as I know, you have to trigger it by actually talking to the trainer when you walk near him.

And you win the fight even if you miss every punch.

Odd since I literally JUST did that robot fight on a restart, and he beat me, and had to redo the fight. So I don't know where you're getting this "you win even if you don't throw a punch" thing. I guess if you just stay upright beyond a certain timer? Because the robot kicked my ass and it didn't end the quest.

Maybe the win condition is to use dodges? Or some of the special moves that I can only pull off by luck? In real fights I just keep hitting the opponent (cyberpsycho) when they're about to hit me. That interrupts their action, so effectively stunlocks them. I don't bother trying anything fancy any more, because that just gets me flatlined. But the robot seems to stop taking damage around halfway, and I always lose.

Can confirm, it only worked during my first playthrough (nomad).

You can only box the robot on the first encounter. If you tell Coach 'not today' you never get another chance. You _can_ lose to the robot but it's not that hard to beat if you keep on it, and back off for a second or two periodically to let your stamina recover. Winning or losing, it changes nothing about the subsequent Beat On The Brat boxing matches.

Making a separate savegame of the robot boxing [and the training shard bit] will allow you to replay it and get some practice.

I've never not been able to fight it (the one time), though I seem to remember it being less scripted in the first versions of the game, but that might just have been me being entirely new in the game and just hamming my way through.
