Confusion/Misinformation on Bounties?
Either I understand exactly how the bounty system works, or (almost) every source I find online regarding how to do bounties has a different idea of what a "bounty" is.

When I first started playing I got excited when the game started telling me about bounties. I'm a sucker for the whole open world mercenary type of gameplay which frankly IMO, is an aspect hardly any games do, or at least, hardly any games that allow you to do that dynamically, without having to be on a one-time scripted mission. Basically "indefinitely."

But after a while I realized that it wasn't paying me jack, even though every target had rewards. That is until I found out that Street Cred was not what this game was calling money, it's simply reputation XP.

So why is it (nearly) every source I'm finding online regarding how to do bounties acting like this is how you get paid?

These are NOT bounties. It's STREET CRED. Very rarely will I find an online source actually differentiating Street Cred and Bounties, the latter being an actual MONETARY reward. None of these videos I posted actually highlight a target with an actual bounty, despite being a tutorial talking about how to claim bounties. Hell, the first video even makes it look like that you HAVE to subdue them in a non-lethal matter, which is actually wrong.

For a while I was beginning to think my game was bugged, as I found many forum posts (posted before the game's recent resurgence status) of other people saying they weren't getting paid for bounties. But then as I progressed a little further I started seeing this:

It's only after killing these enemies do I actually get paid. Okay...so it makes sense now, but why do none of these videos or write-ups mention this? (This isn't even all that I found.)

What they also never mention is that these bounties seem to only show up at NCPD events like Reported Crimes and Assaults, and NEVER on the random encounters. (The ones you can't see on the map.) That's fine and all, but after researching often conflicting information between players, these events are one-time shots and never respawn.

So I'm not sure if this is how the system is supposed to be, my game is seriously bugged, or I'm just one of few that actually noticed this. These videos and articles are making it like these bounties are everywhere. They're not.

Is there a mod or something that makes targets with ACTUAL bounties a little more common? I went to the Nexus but any keywords I type I can think of I come up empty. I know bounties are often not worth that much, but I'm fine with that, it would undervalue selling items.

But I just want the feeling of the open world merc thing that this game is obviously trying to emulate, but not have to depend on static one-time content/missions.

It's rather quite simple.

Scan a gang member and it will say "X Street Cred". That's the bounty rewarded no matter how you dispose of them. Sometimes they might offer cash too, so it will also mention "X Eurodollars" along with "X Street Cred".

Basically once you deal with them in whatever way you please, it automatically is uploaded to you. You get money if the bounty mentioned any and you get street cred always.

It's basically a passive thing that has no real interaction. Maybe they intended it to be a lot more complex, but cut some corners due to what happened.

I mean, you're just reaffirming what I already said. But basically you're saying I'm not doing anything wrong either then and my game isn't bugged.

It doesn't have to be more complex than it already is, but a simple "has bounty" flag or something to appear more on the regular shouldn't be that hard to implement. The system is already in place and it works. It's just that it's too rare of an occasion IMO.

Basically yes, you're not doing anything wrong.

I also got super excited the first time I saw the pop up explaining bounties, but quickly realized it's just a passive XP thingy with occasional money on certain NPCs.

All of the preset NPCs have money attached to them, I suppose to give them some flavor of being wanted.
