The Heist quest - bugged?

So in the heist quest there is a car chase, objective is to eliminate the enemy.
About a minute in my character instantly dies, repeated this about 5 times in a row now ****ing bull****.
I don't know whether this is intended behavior, on the 5th attempt I managed to gun down the main enemy with the **** peashooter ( because for some ****ing reason you're barred from using your own weapons despite actually having them in your inventory at the time ) ;

Or if this is some sort of bug, along the route there are some NCPD peeps who distinctly yell PUT DOWN YOUR WEAPON CEASE FIRE blah blah and get all pissed so maybe they're triggering some kind of BS, or if the car is simply managing to crash into one of those gangoons blocking the street with burning cars again?

Quite upset rn hope maybe there is a fix or some clarity to be gleaned, if this is intentional its terrible maybe the car's blowing up and I just don't see or know if vehicles even have a health meter meanwhile the enemies dodge like crazy and take two entire clips from the godawful pistol my lvl 17 char spits upon. ugh

Heist, yes it would seem it is possible to actually get killed in any car chase.
As a result it is a good idea to be skilled in pistols or quickhacks.
Putting a few points in athletics is also a good idea.

Early on its also possible to get some health cyberware.

There are two car chases in the Heist.

You can only use pistols if you have rifles equipped you get a rubbish pistol, before you get in the taxi you have to equip the best pistols you have otherwise you have to turn the level down to minimum, I always level up my crafting so I can make a good pistol. Reload an autosave from when you are in the lift so you can equip pistols.

If you mean when maelstrom are chasing you then pop some health inhalers. You cannot kill them. It's scripted.

I wasn't even using a gun - I've been a maniac with the mantis blades since I got them.
Whatever gun it is they give you as the "fallback option" I'm not even sure if it can put out enough DPS to kill everything in the "allotted time", will definitely reload the save and equip the revolver I snagged before getting in the car and drop the difficulty. Real shame they don't let you use rifles, your own equipment or even allow the player to swap weapons in the event.

As for whats causing me to die in the event I don't know sure the drones are shooting me and do drop my health from 330 to about 270, and then it flatlines after the certain point in the chase like either its scripted, the car crashed which it does kind of seem like it is, or it is exploding/destroyed but never visibly explodes before the flatline screen.

I'm pretty sure if you don't kill the drones within a certain time, a scripted event kills you, if you have the short circuit hack use that on the drones after every cooldown too.

On the next chase you can't use your own guns at all, someone gives you one. I'll leave who gives you it as a surprise that happens after you kill the drones and arrive at your destination, it's a very interesting plot twist.

And just beat it first attempt today with the good revolver equipped, albiet I was holding a looted LMG before I stepped in the car to test whether I could use it, which is a no.

I think you need to use the other hand to hold onto the car so you don't fall out, which is why you have to use a pistol. Anyway well done.

The chase in the heist with the drones you can also quickhack them and short circuit is very good against drones.

I can't even use the pistol I have equipped or turn around all the way to fight the drones after I get out the window. I automatically die every time even if I reload the save from the elevator.

True. What helps is to get to lvl 10 before you start the Heist and procure a better deck for more RAM. You may also find cheap chrome for additional RAM. If you get the Mechatronic Core, you even get a bonus against drones on top of the RAM. If you further respec into RAM recovery before the ride, this should not be a problem even on very hard, regardless what weapon you are using.
