What's the point of blocking/counterattacking if you get hurt anyways?
Title. Hand to hand combat just works terribly if it's designed that way. Or is it a bug? Lol.

Well you can pull your hands in front of your face, trying to cover yourself and i can still hit your head and make you lose precious health points... as long as you don't carry a friggin full size shield with you, you can't block all attacks...

easy as that i guess.

Simple. Yes.
Except in this game a hit blocking or not blocking doesn't make a ♥♥♥♥ of difference, so there is no point at all. Same with counterattack, basically the game punishes you because you're good, like, i counterattack yet i still lose life.
No sense.

You get hurt less. My strat in hand to hand, wait for enemy to charge at you, then run away, wait for their punchy punchy animation to finish and then wallop them with a strong attack. The only way I managed to finish the fight quests with my stealth techy character. :kyouclannad:

Not really no. Real life - you block, you reduce damage taken. Cyberpunk - you block, you still take the full damage - melee damage completely bypasses blocking and armor.

Not the same thing.

Again. You can't cover all parts of you. How would you do this? You can cover your face but a fist against the side your head is not what i would call "reduced damage taken" in any way.

or cover your crotch, or cover your neck, you simply cant cover every part of you, you are not a hedghehog

What i would totally agree with though, is that the hand combat is not very well in this game.

But i guess it doesn't really matter since all these fist fights are only like 0,05% of the whole game's content.. so yeah one could probably fix this via mods and a bit of value tweaking maybe.

personally it did never bother me much, i just wanted to finish the beat on the brat missions real quick and continue with the game.

None of that says I'm bypassing your armor. If you are blocking an attack coming to wherever it's intended to go, then the damage is reduced.

You are hypothetically saying that a block is missed and a hit taken, and yea sure, you'll take damage. Cyberpunk hits go strait to the head; not anywhere else on the body, so if V is blocking the hit that's coming V's way then that damage would normally be reduced.

Cyberpunk's mechanics says if you block it, you still get it, it's as simple as that.

i get what you say, part of that is what i understand and agree with. Okay.

But this quoted part is not correct. You can best see this in the fight against ozob. you decide whether the grenade explodes, by choosing where you hit him.

or do you mean the hits coming from the enemies towards you?

As far as the spoiler goes, can't do anything about that, however in the actual fight I specifically mean melee attacks coming towards V.

Don’t remember fistfights in CP2077 well, but isn’t it the same as in TW3 where you can block fast attacks but not heavy attacks, and heavy attacks otoh are slower so your opponent can may get a hit in before your heavy attack connects?

I don't remember having issues with melee in the past. Did something change? Also are you misunderstanding what they mean by a block stingray87? Cause if you block something coming at your head it doesn't impact your head anymore. Means by good game design you should reduce or negate that damage by a good margin typically.

Like a boxer deflecting or blocking a hit doesn't still take the hit to the face. I usually build for health and stuff a bit so maybe I was just tanky and didn't notice the blocks failing to do their job. Hope that's not the case though I was planning to get back into it to see what all has been changed.

Nope. No hits can be blocked.

Probably. My conclusion was, it doesn't really matter much, since the fights are just a 'gimmick' in the game that isn't really essential for the whole picture of "cyberpunk" or the story. Wouldn't even have hurt if they had cut out the whole fighting missions.

But that is just what i'm thinking, others may say they absolutely have to have fist fights in these type of games.
Bannith Jan 6, 2022 @ 1:00pm
Way I see it is if you put it in you make it work. That's that. Doesn't matter how small or big it is. Just make it work decently and no one really has a reason to complain. I remember blocking working with light attacks and junk as some of the comments have jogged my memory a bit but if they no longer work then I'd assume that's a bug rather than intended design.
stingray87 Jan 6, 2022 @ 1:06pm
Okay. If "blocking" is possible, it should work. I understand this, makes sense.

But just to make sure, how do we know it's not a bug or that it may depend on a certain skill tree perk for blocking to be effective?
