What a dude
One of the things that many people still get wrong about Cyberpunk to this day is like he once said in an interview: "When I hear critics say that my books are 'hard and glossy,' I almost want to give up writing. The English reviewers, though, seem to understand that what I'm talking about is what being hard and glossy does to you."
I can't imagine how people who read it in 1984 reacted seeing how things evolved and how Gibson's vision of technology that didn't exist at the time finally happened years laters... That book is incredible on this aspect.
Anyone who likes Cyberpunk or just CP2077 should read it, at least to see how the book almost created every aspect of the CP universe, so many years ago, and still feels very futuristic and spot on. It's rather short and got a good pace, give it a go.
Edit: lol context. Yea readers were prepped for it.
Well, to me the only part where you can see Blade Runner was used as an inspiration for Gibson is about the "real" universe and the settings: overall danger, insecurity, japanese urban settings, maybe some body modification but that didn't strike me as much.
Neuromancer is a lot focused on Cyberspace however, much more than reality, I don't really get why it could have been perceived as a ripoff...
A bit off-topic beside that, but if there's some good advices for more CP books and litterature, I'm all ears, I'm not a very regular reader so probably any suggestion will help - except for Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive, which obviously are on my upcoming list !
Maybe Ready Player One too, though the vibe is very different.
William isn't the creator of Cyberpunk, the genre existed before he was published.

Started from the 60s, he is credited for the Cyberpunk genre but this passage of text shows he started his writing career in the late 70s?

This is one of the 1st movies I had experienced as cyberpunk which pre-dates Gibson's work.
